My students never stop looking for new and creative ways to be rude to me. Case in point, a student today tried to get my attention during class by saying "Hey American person."

I have one kid who asked me if I was transgendered and then what sex I was. Does that make you feel any better? At least he learned an English word, I guess. He can't say 'fish' or 'Venus' but he must have spent days practicing this one. I hate that kid. |

You should have asked him if the kid if he was asking for his interest or his fathers. |

It's bizarre the vocabulary you get here. "Transgender" seems to be a commonly known word (I imagine it's phonetically the same in Korean). The thing is, I only recently learned what that word means! I certainly wouldn't have known the subtle differences between gay/transvestite/transgender/hermaphrodite/etc when I was in elementary school! I think this country is seriously repressed, when gays are not allowed to show their faces in public, but every kid knows about their strange secret ways. |

Reminds me of that discussion I had with my advanced high school class last month about what what pronoun you would use with Ha Ri Su, He or She.
To settle the discussion, I held out my white board marker and made chopping gestures.
The girls all laughed, and the boys all grimaced and crossed their legs. Some things are just universal I guess. |
