I find it somewhat odd that when I use the ATM machine at my bank(Shinhan) in my area that I can't make a monetary deposit following the "DOMESTIC ENGLISH" link on the touch screen. There are only three options available: withdrawal, account transfer, and balance inquiry. Many transactions are done electronically in the banking culture except the ability to deposit money into ones' account using the ATM.
I just think the same service available to Koreans should be available to ex-pats. To date, I have not completely mastered the various Korean display icons on the touch screen to be able to make a deposit.
I will inquire at my bank upon my next visit and see what they say. |

Change banks. My bank gives that option in English. |

| Or try depositing from another bank's ATM. The local KB went through a brief stage where they said we foreign account holders couldn't transfer funds from the ATM, that we had to complete paperwork and appear at the window (and I'm talking domestic transfers here). So a certain perturbed customer took her ATM card down to the local Nong Hyup and -- voila -- instant transfer from her KB account regardless of KB's innane "policy." |
