I'm hoping to buy a printer capable of copying and scanning. Does anyone have any good recommendations? |

I've had an HP one for the last 2 years and aside from a minor glitch in the scanning software that was easily fixed, it's been great. |

Buy a seperate printer and scanner.
less chance of things going wrong.
Most scanner have a copy function where it will simply copy to the default printer.
My rec's
Samsung Lazer printer, about US$100 - Might need to buy in the states next time your back to get a good price
Cannon Scanner |

The Epson STylus series (I've got a CX1500) have proved faithful to me and people I know and have a fairly small footprint (as well as the advantage of being able to put stuff on top of them too - very handy for an office that is small).
Cons though -
ink hog IF you use 3rd party inks
doesn't auto off/park print heads which irritates me
paper feed can be problematic (fixed this by letting paper flop forward over the copier and doing away with the plastic paperfeed attachment.
But all in all a good quality machine... |

Epson printers do good quality printouts, better than HP and some other brands in this regard (opinion). The problem that I've always had with Epson is that unlike HP the print heads heads are in the printer as aposed to the print cartridge.
If you you dont print out regualy the ink sometimes dries up in teh heads. With HP you simply replace the cartridge as thats where the print heads are located. with HP its either new print head time (about US$100) plus new cartdiges or new printer time.
Or at least thats the problem that I've always had with Epson. |

HP all-in-one in a heartbeat. We have an all-in-one at school. I have a separate scanner and HP printer at home. Man, I wish I had the all-in-one.
Just make sure your model has ink wells that are larger than 11ml. The cheaper printers have VERY small ink cartridges that run out in less than 10 to 20 color copies. It's a joke. And these cartridges can cost as much as buying a whole new printer!
It's all about the ink. That's how these companies make money. The printers are almost a loss for them.
I've always been a fan of HP's print quality for text compared to Epson, which seems kind of dirty. |
