I've been in Korea 2 years and this is one thing I just can't get.. Why do Koreans have this bizzare idea that to be productive one must be at work.

We have tests and no classes for two days and I have to sit here doing nother for 1 and half of them. Korean teachers are in the same boat too.

I know I should be working on but my crappy computer can't run powerpoint for more than 30 minutes without crashing. Google image search crashes my computer. And ms word I have to lift my hands of the key board every sentence so that the words will come up. So I can't exactly produce much in the way of teaching materials

Grrr

Dear Crazy Lemon Girl

To solve the dilemna of butt sitting one should bring a movie to school and watch it on the big screen TV in your classroom. X-box and PS2 are also other possibilities. You can sit in your classroom and play games to your hearts content and get paid for it as images of hogwan slaves, who have to work every minute they are at the hogwan, dance through your head.

Hey, this time around they roped me in to sit at the back of the classroom supervising exams...
Gee, which is better, being bored on my feet in the stinking and hot classroom making sure students don't cheat, or sitting on my butt getting mad at my piece of shite computer..?
Actually I don't care - even though it's boring surpervising the tests, it's a 'new' boredom!
Done my 'duty' now and am going off to the doctor this arvo.

Starting Monday, I have 1 full week of no classes. Previously, I could go home and do nothing. However, with Monday being the day that I tell the school I am not renewing with them, it probably won't be the best day to ask for the rest of the week off.

Good idea, Grotto. Looks like PS2 week for me. Or I will play Civ CTP.

This is one of the gripes that I have with Korea.

you'd have thought they'd have realised that if they let the foreigners stay at home it will help moral. they will be gettng a happier foreigner by doing nothing. surely someone realizes that what there doing is counter productive in terms of moral.

I have a couch in the back of my English Zone\office, some good books, a dvd player, and a big screen tv. Almost better than my apartment.

As has been mentioned before, never ever mention to your supervisor that you are bored. They will find something for you to do.

Hey Jack did the school provide you with the couch, or did you find it or buy it?

It's the Korean style, isn't it?

Lots of hours but not a lot of work.

I suggested it to my minder when we were setting up the English zone at the beginning of the semester, to put a couch and some easy chairs in the back.

Never thought they would actually approve it.
