I'm interested in taking Hapkido classes in my area. A Korean co-worker tells me that martial arts classes are mainly for children and that I'm going to have a difficult time finding adult classes. Does this seem right?

I work from 2pm - 10pm so I'll need to take either morning classes or night classes. Any info will be greatly appreciated.

My husband takes hapkido in Bundang (Yatap). He goes to the 8 p.m. class, but he says they have an 11-12 p.m. class for adults. There are probably other foreigners in that class.

If you want more info, let me know. He told me he'll help set you up.

It is hard to find adult martial arts classes here. Your coworkers is right, it's primarily a kid thing. You'll probably have better luck finding more adults if you're willing to travel to get to the studio. Could also check into University clubs, perhaps.

Really, a lot of it depends on the Kwanjangnim and any instructors more than the number of kids. You might also be able to work out a "man-to-man" thing, though that may not be what you want.

Hapkido rocks. How many whities do you have as friends?

Here's what you do. Get about 5 or 6 guys to take it with you. Ask the master if you guys canhave your own class (hardcore) and do it right before you go into work.

That's how me and some of my friends did it for 2 years. Try it...it might work.

Our Hapkido dojang on the east side of Seoul offers adult weekend classes with a wonderful grandmaster who speaks English very well. Our classes are small, so you get a lot of personal attention. All skill levels are welcome--from beginner to black belt. I very much recommend these classes.
If interested, please contact Ryan at: [email protected].
