Does anyone know where I can get a good haircut in Seoul by someone who speaks english? I heard that there was a Tony and Guy but I can't seem to find a number for them. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

yeah there is a tony and guy in apkujong. i went there a couple of months ago and got a decent haircut. it was around 40,000 won...will probably be more expensive if you're a female.

anyway, the director there speaks english. his name is ha baik-san and the number on the business card that he gave me is: 02-540-0061~2

good luck!

steve.

Holy crap!!!

You can find much cheaper English-speaking hairdressers!!!

My man speaks great English and he cut hair in London for 7 years so he know western tastes very well. 20,000.

Sounds like T&G are sticking the arm in these days.

Thanks Steve! I appreciate it...Don't think 40,000 is that bad. Or even 50,000. It's worth it if they know what they are doing. I ended up paying over $200 back home to fix the mess that a Korean hairdresser did to me last year...Eamo. Where is the hairdresser that you go to?

If it's a basic cut and wash then 40,000 is the rate in hip Apgujeong boutiques. Over-priced and not guaranteed to be good.

My hairdresser is in Daechi-dong near Seollung station. Really hard to find though. He's in the side-streets. A few lefts and a couple of rights. I can't even remember now the route from Seollung station but you would come out of exit 2 and go straight over the crest of the small hill then take a left. Not exact I know.

It's called Invinto Or Vinto. Can't quite remember. The only sign I pay attention to is the sign painted on the window that says "English Service".

If you're really desperate for a good English-speaking hairdresser I would meet you at Seolleung station and take you there. PM if you want that.

Shocked Shocked Shocked When I saw the 40k, I thot for sure this was a woman. 200? Where are you from? LA/NY? Holy crap. Maybe you're going to one of those "barber" shops. For $200 I would hope that you get a lot more than just a cut. The wife would get a perm and dye job for around a 100k Shocked Crying or Very sad

My first haircut in Korea was such a nightmare that I didn't even let her finish. It took a long time to recover. I think she must have thought I was Korean or something. Trust me, I'm much too hairy to be one.

Show them a picture of what you want, and language shouldn't be much of a problem.

I get my hair cut at Uno in COEX. They don't speak English, but you do get the same person everytime which is great because they know what you want.
I pay KW 12,000.

Jesus Murphy! Reading this post made me realize yet again why I am so happy to live Gangwon-do province. W40,000 for a haircut! Come on! What a rip off!

I get a nice layering job done on my long hair here in Donghae for W7,000.

Just today, I went to get my hair dyed plus 8 highlights put in. It cost only W40,000 and I am thrilled with the results. A dye job in Canada like the one I got today would be double the price-at least. I can't imagine what it would cost in Seoul Confused

I'm more of a Blue Club kinda guy.

Pros:

*5 000 won
*Free Korean language exchange
*Always leave with an amusing story to tell

Cons:

*Can't help but feel the "wish-whitey-would-get-out" vibe from at least one of the patrons and/or staff.
*No matter how much you try to get them to do what you want, you always end up leaving with a Korean boxhead cut.

I've been going to the same old barber for 5 years now. I'm sure I'm the first & only foreigner he's ever dealt with. Its largely wordless. He gives me a good cut that never looks like I've just been shorn & trims my beard too. 10000 won. Not Seoul, sorry.

At a local hotsprings. Funny sitting in his chair naked, & its pleasant to shower, soak. sauna, & scrub afterwards.

I'm about due for a visit tomorrow, in fact.

When I was in Kuang-ju, there were barber shops that also doubled as whorehouses. They really take care of your heads!!! Laughing

I paid 8,000 won for my last haircut, and I live in Seoul. The place didn't speak much English, and I don't speak enough Korean yet. I showed them a nice picture of myself, and they cut it alright. I guess I'm not picky about my hair though.

Maybe showing the barber or hairdresser a picture of yourself will enable them to give you a satisfactory haircut if they can't communicate with you well.

Shocked I hope you're not the only one sitting naked in his chairs. That sounds a little weird. Actually, I guess it would be stranger being the only naked guy sitting in a barber's chair. Now, I'm not so sure. I think I'd be bringing my own cushion.

Hold it! Where's he cutting?! Shocked

Holy schnikeys, I just went to get a haircut today for the first time in Korea and it was absolutely abhorrent. (Prior to this haircut I had just been getting it totally shaved.) I had a Korean at my hagwon write down specific directions on how to cut it, and he did exactly what the instructions said not to do: HE LAYERED IT. Yeah, that's right, he gave me one of those rediculous three-layered Korean fade jobs that make my head look like an upside-down triangle. It looks so horrible. And when I tried to explain to him how I wanted it, he wouldn't even let me talk, but would about convulse into hysterics because I was moving and the cape threatened to fall down from the back of the chair and into the chair! So the dude was more worried about getting hair in the chair than how I wanted my hair done.

It looks freakin horrible and I'm miserable about it. 9,000 won.
