About a year ago my boss started gleening about 100,000 won off of my check every month for pension. I am leaving in abput 45 days. Is there any paperwork I have to do before I can receive that money back?
Thanks a lot

Yes, of course. You should also check to see if he is actually putting it the pension account instead of in his pocket. Search the site, all the info and instructions are there. |

Make sure that your nationality entitles you to the pension refund. |

Yeah, if you are British, you don't get it. |

I would think your first step would be to contact the local National Pension office. They will tell you what to do. (It's much easier than sifting through hundreds of posts.) |

Here's a question. I've contributed into the National Pension plan. It's refundable, so no problem. But, what about my contributions to the national pension plan for school teachers ("private pension")? Can I get both back or just one? |

Is there only one Pension Office? I live in Bucheon. How can I locate the pension office nearest me? |

Call 1355, dial '0', and ask for help in English. |

How can I claim a pension from a contract I completed quite a few years ago? The only "proof" I have is the E-2 in my expired passport. Is there any benefit to leaving the money there to accrue? Do several noncontiguous periods of employment get credited to the same account? I know, I'm so clueless, but it seems there's a few million won I should claim sooner or later. Can foreigners retire in Korea and draw their pension? |

I found a partial answer here:

If you can get your Korean pension at retirement age, and it can be sent to you anywhere in the world, why are people getting the lump sum reimbursement? Do you cash out your 401k every time you leave a job back home? |

Do you have to go to the Pension office nearest you? Or will the main one do? Does anyone know? I'm headed out to one soon. Thanks. |

Many teachers are young and want the money to travel/party.
Most figure to never come back again. Why wait?
Most don't trust the gov't to get their money back "later".
Me? I'm points 2 & 3.

No. But, in that case you're not leaving the country.
Korea's a little screwy. My wife took "part" of her pension when she travelled a few years ago. Now, when we leave for Canada she'll take out the rest. I don't know if we can do that back home. Just take out some of our pension money whenever we want? I can understand if you're allegedly leaving for good, but she was just travelling the last time. |
