at my computer at work i'm not able to defrag it. NOt sure why. While it is scaning it gets to about 60% complete and then pops up with a error mesage. There is a lot of stuff in korean and it says scan disk. I haven't seen a scan disk option of XP. even if i had i don't know how to fix the problem if there is one. GRRRRR.

Scan disk is in the same place on XP that it's been for other MS OSs: double click my computer, right click on the drive, select 'properties', click on the 'tools' tab, press the 'check now' button in the error-checking box (I think it's exactly the same in XP but can't confirm right now as I'm on a 2kp machine at the moment), check the 'automatically fix file error' and 'scan for and repair bad sectors' boxes and click start. It'll tell you that it'll happen the next time you reboot if you want to check the drive/partition that has your OS, so reboot. Could take a while depending on the size of the drive and how full it is.

Anyway it sounds like your problem is caused by a misreporting of the amount of free space your drive has, not a big deal and scan disk should take care of it. If not then you might want to try a different program like Norton Disk Doctor or Iolo System Mechanic (free 30 day trail will give you more than enough time to sort out your system).
