Poll Suggests Drop in Bush's Personal Credibility
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Bush's personal credibility appears to be eroding at a time when Iraq has become the top public priority and the White House is engulfed in controversy over senior Bush adviser Karl Rove, a poll released on Wednesday suggested.
The NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll showed the percentage of Americans who believe Bush is "honest and straightforward" fell to 41 percent from 50 percent in January, while those who say they doubt his veracity climbed to 45 percent from 36 percent.

Just goes to show, cognitive dissonance is a powerful weapon. |

I agree that Fox News has quite a grip on people. It is part of the explanation why so many people still believe that the President is a straight shooter despite going against his word and not firing Rove as he promised he would to anyone in the administration who were to do what he did. |

Cognitive dissonance means the mind's tendency to reject new cognitions (knowledge, thoughts, beliefs) that contradict the ones it already holds. So, somebody who votes for Bush would have a difficult time believing that Bush did something dishonest. Somebody who voted against Bush would have a difficult time believing that Bush is intelligent or that his actions have been good for America.
The fact is he's made thousands of decisions and taken thousands of actions since taking office; there is ample evidence for people on either side to reinforce what they already believe. This explains why, after election year debates, all Democrats believe the Democrat won, and all Republicans believe the Republican won... only uninterested viewers (and time) can tell who really out-debated the oher. |

PS: I have never ever in my life seen Fox News. (I more or less gave up TV in 2000.) And yet, I think Bush is a straight shooter. One thing that is clear about Bush is that he is staunchly loyal, on the level of national alliances (think Israel) as well as the personal level (think of his sticking with Rumsfeld after the prison abuse scandal, when even the conservatives were demanding Rummy's head). I am not surprised that he is backing up his man Carl. |

Loyal eh?
I gotta tell you, loyalty has nothing to do with politics. No one in politics should be loyal to anything except
1) their word
2) their voting public.
political friends? Sorry dude. Your friends do bad things, your friends faith wrath. You protect your friends from justice they just might deserve, your nothing but a sheister in my books. |

I'm no fan of Bush, but does a poll on him by IGTG have any credibility?
Does any thread of IGTG's have any credibility?
I'm gonna say 'no' on both counts. |

I saw the news on the poll on Reuters this morning and was thinking of putting up the thread myself. |

You have credibility to spare.
Unfortunately IGTG has worked hard to set up negative cognitive dissonance as far as I'm concerned.
His accuracy to volume ratio is probably something like 2:24 and even a broken watch can be right twice a day. |

He might win 'least credible ever' but can you think of a US president you could consider truly credible? I'm not sure if I could even give Jefferson that lable. |
