In a sign of a stronger attitude towards sexual harassment, a Seoul judge sentenced a man convicted of fondling a female passenger on the subway to a six-month jail term.

"The convicted deliberately committed the crime in public, but pretended as if it was an accident", said Kim Yeong-gyu, a Seoul Southern District Court judge. "The nature of the offense is quite terrible".

The man, identified only as Kim, fondled a 23-year old woman last December while standing behind her in a subway train on the No.2 line.

I knew this sort of thing happens regularly in Japan but was unaware of it being a problem here too.

Oh it happens here too, but in Japan it's cleaner, more polite, and more modern. They brought it to Korea when they were saving the country through their benevolent style of colonialization. Right after they finished building the railroads they introduced railroad groping. It would be years however, before either country developed a successful method of 'upskirt' photography, as in the early days the flash powder would usually set the young woman's clothes on fire.
