Am I the only one who thinks that legit recruiters (for full-time jobs) SHOULD know something about immigration law and procedures. It has been my experience that they know less and seem to think they know EVERYTHING. Why are they so stupid?? Is it a pre-requisite before becoming a recruiter??

Most of them are just opportunists, if not criminals. Gee who can we thank for the recruiters?

Don't use Korean recruiters or any recruiter that offers you employment in Korea's EFL industry.

They do not correspond with headhunters in the U.S.

I got my job through a recruiter almost a year ago and am happy with it. I was already in Korea but wanted something in a small town. Travelling the countryside from town to town like a strolling minstrel wasn't an option, so I used a recruiter someone else recommended to me.

There are some crappy recruiters but I can also vouch for the fact there are some pretty crappy jobseekers too.

I was thinking of using a recruiter to acquire a high school job. Should I stay away?

I got my first job in Korea in 1992 through a recruiter. They aren't in that business anymore - in fact they now own an international school.

They did a great job for me.

I'll buy that most scuk - but some are not bad - and if someone is lacking confidence they can fill a good role. Ask for references.

If they give you the contact address of somebody who has already worked there then maybe. I used to work in a recruiting agency that did mostly public school positions and the way it works is that a number of recruiters go off to the board of education in a province, make their presentation and then schools sign on to the ones they like. Then the recruiting agency will have, say, 20 positions in the province to fill by the beginning of the next term.

I suggest you ask the recruiter a question a little out of the blue and see if they bother responding to it with any seriousness. If they won't go a little off-topic from 'please send your resume and photo' then I wouldn't bother.

There are some good recruiters out there. Sadly there are many more fly-by-night operators. Sad

You need to do the basics here: research, ask questions and be realistic.
