I am thinking about buying a new Laptop in the USA when I go back. I wonder if Longhorn is out yet.

I think Longhorn will have a lot more hidden programs on it. The reason I think this is because of all the pirated software and downloaded songs, movies etc that peopel get from torrents. I think Miscrosoft will have a lot more built-in hinderances that will detect that stuff and disable it.

I would not want those programs running in the background

Longhorn is not out yet. It is slated for release sometime in 2006.

As it was with Windows 98, Win XP will be around and supported for a long time to come. Yes, Longhorn will be a very invasive OS...I think that's a certainty.

I will be jumping on the Longhorn wagon though. It will have some pretty cool features...besides how long do you think it will take people to work around anything they can put in the way of freedom on your PC? Not long....

How long did it take to circumvent the authentification scheme on XP? Not long....

It could be interesting. Make an OS like Longhorn scary enough, and release Google OS around the same time, and Microsoft might find things getting quite interesting.

Interesting point Derrek.

The fact that Longhorn is so ominous might give rise to new and "lighter" versions from third parties.

I think this will be a prime time for Apple to release OS"X" to the Intel masses....seems like it's coming anyways...they could make a killing if they do it right and market it well.

We can only benefit, but there is going to be one messy compatibility fight, complete with lawsuits -- straight to the supreme court -- galore!
