At 12 noon I met a man at exit #1 at Kwanghwamoon station. I was anticipating a standard interview. It was a camp job starting the beginning of August and ending 2 weeks later. I waited for 15 minutes at the top of the stairs, he was late. Then a Korean man strolls up with stylish glasses, greets me and proceeds to lead me to his company's office. Surprise, there was no interview, only a contract handed to me by the same person who escorted me to the office.

Taken back a moment, I notice that I am in an officetel, first time, a nice lay out, but crowded. There was a director, a secretary and the recruiter in a living room a little over 2 Pyeung. An office space that could have been set up in the time it takes to finish a vending machine milk coffee.

The contract had no hours filled in, it was left blank (I assume they put whatever they would like in there after the I sign it, that scared me) I asked him what he expected from me and the other teachers. He added it up. It came to 12 hours a day + 12 on Saturday and that Sunday was free time. That means time to myself; time I don't have to work. And you are paid once the camps ends. I wonder if officetels can be rented by the week? I thanked them and told them I was not interested in working that many hours a day.

Was the first guy a short, slimy guy who made you feel like you should sterilize your hands after shaking with him? Works for an English publishing company? Name of Park?

If so, you made a good decision. If not, you still made a good decision.

He was not the slimest guy, he was kind of likeable. Almost pretending to act like he knows nothing and is here to be your friend. I don't know if it was an act or not. The decision maker was clammy and offered no eye contact, kind of like, "let's hurry up and get this over with". I am sure he is under pressure to hire people, this is Korea.
