it's almost time for me to get a renewal.

I've never done this before so does anyone know how long it takes and if I can do it one or two months before expiry?

thanks Very Happy

I renewed mine about two weeks before it was due up. I had initially planned to do it a bit earlier but almost forgot (!) until the reminder card came through the door. One thing to be wary of though is that strictly speaking it's your spouse who's supposed to renew it seeing as they're the visa sponsor, and as I went to immigration by myself to do it the officer wasn't going to accept all the documents until I agreed to send the missus up to collect the card later.

If I remember rightly it took about a week to process, but I went during a weekday and it wasn't until the following weekend that my wife was able to go up there. I have to renew mine again in September, and the date of expiry falls slap in the middle of the Chuseok holiday this year so I'll be going there about two or three weeks early again (missus in tow this time) to get it done.

Good news! I got mine renewed and they put a two year extension on it. Now I just have to worry about my passport expiring soon after the next renewal date in 07

I had to fight for my 2 year renewal! They said that normally you only get one year unless you've been here for 5 years on f-2 or if you have a kid. I was 6 months pregnant when I renewed mine last year... after some *negotiation*, he finally agreed to give me 2 years.

Anyway.. I renewed mine on the day it expired. Only because we were really busy and didn't have time to go. As long as you go before it expires, it's fine, even if it's the day it expires!

I actually did dress nice (not a tie though) and was really respectful and all that shit. I think my wife was just not forceful enough with the guy.

I got a two year without any hassle, also got a two year re-entry permit at the same time, the wierd thing is you only pay the same as if you were getting a one year viasa/permit so you save yourself both time and money.
