I've got Limewire. I've got a lot of free time to download. What I don't have is much exposure or recommendations for new music. I love MC Mong and all, but I'm looking for something other than K Pop.

Music llovers, what are some good songs to download? Here's a few bands I like just to give you a little idea:

The Postal Service
Paul Simon
The White Stripes
Outkast
Radiohead
Modest Mouse

I'll give anything a chance though. There's not much I really dislike.

Thanks everybody.

The old choices of the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Let's Go Bowling, MU330, and the Starlight Mints are always a crowd-pleaser.

Sufjan Stevens (That Dress Looks Nice on You)

DMB (Smooth Rider; Everybody Wake Up; Dreamgirl)

Ponce Frond

Tweezer burn

The Noodling Warblers

Resonant Cranium

The Flatulant Four

These are all of the "too kool 4 skool", obscure, make-me-look-cool bands I can think of right now.

Back to college radio now, doodz....

Rolling Eyes

Demo,

You could actually try LISTENING to the songs/artists posted rather than making fun of them because you've never heard of the artists. I bet you'd be surprised.

That most of them are not 100% in the thrall of music marketing, heard on every station and easily purchased at Wal-mart should be a considered to be a good thing, shouldn't it? At least, assuming they have talent and are not just some anti-marketing marketing gimmick? (and I assure you that's not the case)

And as a matter of fact I'd say most of the artists listed are 'known', they're just not on the Billboard Top 50 or the FM radio playlists at the moment. They're not nearly as obscure as you'd like to think they are; Perhaps you're just a little more out of touch than you'd care to admit?

And even if they are obscure, does that mean they're not worth listening to?
I suppose if your idea of quality music is Justin Timberlake, Rob Thomas, and Brittany Spears, then the answer is 'yes'.

The songs listed are just good songs, most of them relatively simple- there is no 'guitar feed-back symphony' or 'thrash polka' waltzes or anything too bizarre.

You want good new music?
Try downloading the Spoon songs I listed- that would be a good start and they're relatively easy to find on the better PtoP networks.

Anyway, here's a link for people who are afraid to try something new:

Enjoy your Mariah, 50 Cent and Kelly Clarkson.

If you are looking for music (or movie) recommendations based upon groups you know and love, then check out Live Plasma (http://www.musicplasma.com/). This is a great site for discovering new people and groups.

Perhaps, I'm willing to be enlightened- what exactly are we expected to take away from your comments?

It seemed to me that you were making fun of music that you had never heard- was that wrong?
