Conditions of Employment ()
The employee's job description shall consist primarily of the following:

Warning #1, preschool and adult classes=split shifts(usually)
A. ESL instructor in any and all phases of the Employer's program to classes that range from the preschool children to adult level
B. Curriculum design and implementation
C. Development of educational program and materials
D. Field activities for and or with students
E. Grading and evaluation of students.
F. Student counseling or evaluation
G. Attendance at teachers meetings and workshops
H. Other related activities Delete H, too general and has no business being in a contract

Article 2. Period of Employment Ⱓ
The period of this contract is one year beginning from the date of the Employee's first working day at the Institute, in Korea.
 Ⱓ ǰ п ٹϷκ ϳⰣ Ѵ.

Article 3. Salary and Working Hours ް ٹð
The Employee shall teach classes for 120 hours(1 hour = 60 minutes) a month (1st through 30th or 31th). The Employer shall pay a monthly salary of 2.0 million Won in Korean Currency. Payment shall be made once a month.

No way. An hour should be 40 or 50 minutes. And! You should only agree to teach X amount of classes per week.

In no event shall the employee wait longer than 31 calendar days to receive his/her monthly salary.

Payday should be set. Every 10'th of the month for example.
Korean Income Tax will be deducted from the base salary at a rate of 3.3% per month in accordance with Korean tax laws.

Delete 3.3% and leave it in accordance with Korean tax laws. The tax on 2 mil is about 29,000 won per month not 66,000which would be 3.3%

ǰ 1Ͽ (30 Ȥ 31) ļ 120ð(1ð 60) Ͽ ϸ ޿ ȭ 190 ϸ, ȭ 1ȸ ޹ް 31 ̻  ־ üǾ ȵȴ.
ٷμҵ漼 ǰ ޿ 3.3% Ѵ.

Article 4. Over-time Pay : ʰ ٹ
If the Employee teaches more than 120 hours a month he/she will be paid 20,000 Won per hour(60 minutes).
ǰ 120ð ̻ ٹ ô ʰ ð(60) ȭ20,000 ޱ Ѵ.

Again an hour should be 50 minutes. 120x60=7200 minutes. If you teach 50 minute classes you end up teaching 144 classes a month. Thats 36 classes a week=7 classes a day. A heavy load indeed!

Article 5. Policies:

The following policies have been established to assist instructors in the expected performance of their duties. ܱ 簡 Ѿ ǹ Դϴ.
The employer will have the right to dismiss the employee for clear and frequent neglect of duties under this agreement.
 ǰ ؼ ذ ִ.

a) The Employer shall request the resignation of the Employee, if the Employee is found to be guilty of gross misconduct in the execution of his teaching duties. If this gross misconduct brings a negative effect to the classes, the Employer may annul the contract and dismiss the Employee and shall be free from any legal responsibility. However, prior written notice is required to ensure that the Employee is given adequate opportunity to correct his/her misconduct.

Red flag! They cannot escape their legal responsabilities by putting a clause like this in the contract. Illegal and immoral.

 ǰ ð л鿡 彺 ൿ Ͽ ذ ǰų ǹ ǰΰ ıϰ ǰο չ å ִ. ̷ ൿ ٷ ȸ Ģ Ѵ.

b) Professional dress and grooming in the work place are essential to maintaining the desired reputation of the Institute. The Employer shall establish guidelines for professional dress.

Find out what it is beforehand. Suit and tie?

 ÿ μ ؾ ϸ ̶ ִ ˷ Ѵ.

c) All instructors must behave in a professional manner during class and when socializing with students outside of class. Instructors should be aware of the cultural background of Korean students and their expectations of teachers.

d) Instructors are required to attend all staff meetings as requested by the Director. If an instructor must be absent, he/she must inform the Director or Asst. Director prior to the meeting.
 ְ 䱸ϴ ӿ ؾ ϸ, ̿ ô Ǵ åڿ ظ Ģ Ѵ.

e) Instructors are required to interview new students and evaluate their placement level. ʿ л ͺϿ ݿ ġؾ߸ Ѵ.

Find out if these meetings and placement tests are considered paid time!

f) The employee shall not be absent without two days' prior notice or shall not be late in attendance.

Stupid clause...two days prior notice of being sick. Dumb!
ǰ Ʋ ̴ Ǵ .

g) Instructors will be sanctioned by the Director if they make sexual advances towards students or if questionable inter-personal relationships with individual students result in the loss of other students.
 л ߸ ̼ ̳ ҹ̽ Ϸ Ͽ ̿ å ߱ ִ.

h) The Employee shall prepare teaching materials for each class beforehand and will be honest and diligent in teaching students in all classes. The Employer agrees to furnish all curricula, textbooks, and other teaching materials.
ǰ ǽð 縦 غϴµ Ͽ ϸ л鿡 ׻ Ͽ Ѵ. , , Ÿ 縦 غϴµ Ѵ.

i) If many of the Employee's students complain about the classes, or if the students enrollment falls below the accepted average for the third consecutive month, the Employee will be required to attend teacher training or other teachers classes as requested by the Director.
ټ л ϰų л 3 ǰ п 䱸ϴ Ʒ̳ ٸ ϴ Ѵ.

j) The Employee shall agree not to teach at any other location without the permission of the Institute.
ǰ п ٸ ҿ Ǹ .

k) If the instructor seeks release from his/her contract because of cultural differences, homesickness or personal problems, he/she will report to the institute and will receive 70 % of the monthly salary from the time until a replacement instructor is appointed (maximum 4-6 weeks) and the instructor will be required to work until the new instructor arrives and will be required to return the travel allowance which he/she received.
However, should the Employer wish to terminate the contract for personal reasons, then the Employer will be required to provide airfare for the Employee. Alternatively, the Employer should give the Employee sufficient time to find another job at another institute.

Interesting...doesnt this conflict what they say in Article 5 section A? With this clause they are setting themselves up for a midnight run. Stupidity again.

簡 ȭ Ǵ ı⸦ 쿡 п ̸ ˷ְ ü 簡 (4-6 ) ϸ ޿ 70 % ޱ Ѵ. ׸ ǰ ޹ ο ȯѴ. ׷ ıϱ⸦ ǰο ư װḦ ϰų ǰ ٸ ڸ ã ֵ ð ־Ѵ.

Article 6. Benefits

a) Housing ()
The Employer will arrange and pay for accommodation for the period of the contract, and the employee shall pay living expenses including electricity, water, gas, oil, phone bills, etc.. Meals are not provided.

Specify single accomodations, furnished. Who knows what kind of setup they might have in mind!

d) Paid Holidays ( ): 10 days are observed each year. ϳ 10 Ѵ.

Article 7. Governing Law and Jurisdiction ǰ

No it does not seem okay. Keep looking! Too many hours, too many bullcrap clauses and generalities!

Should be specific here. Something like, "If employee buys an oil drum and doesn't completely use it by his departure date, the school will reimburse for the unused oil."

This part, in English, says that you're being paid 2mil:

Quote:

In no event shall the employee wait longer than 31 calendar days to receive his/her monthly salary.

Korean Income Tax will be deducted from the base salary at a rate of 3.3% per month in accordance with Korean tax laws.

While this part, in Korean, says that you'll be getting 1.9mil:

Quote:
ǰ 1Ͽ (30 Ȥ 31) ļ 120ð(1ð 60) Ͽ ϸ ޿ ȭ 190 ϸ, ȭ 1ȸ ޹ް 31 ̻  ־ üǾ ȵȴ.
ٷμҵ漼 ǰ ޿ 3.3% Ѵ.
