Does anyone have a favored program they use? Mine got whacked, it was pre-installed on my computer. Record now! was it's name. I'm looking to buy another burning program.

I always use Nero. It handles most of what I need to do and does it easily.

Nero. And update it immediately after buying.

I am 99% certain that, as a defense against copies/downloads, Nero purposefully sells non-working copies of their program that will not work correctly unless you update.

They also advertise all of the functionality of their program, but often you must pay extra to actually USE that functionality (buying MPG and .MP3 encoders from their online site to "unlock" the programs potential). It depends on which version you get.

Hackers are always a few steps behind, however. You will often find that if you install an update when you were using a crack, the new update will lock out your program and leave you a nasty message to buy the software.

Most people use Nero. I never liked it. The 2 I use are Alcohol 120% (for bin/cue/iso, and Sonic record now DX (for data disks.)

Real Player has a nice CD burning option attached to its software. There's a small yearly fee to use the service.

shouldn't this be two different questions? Burning non-data DVDs i.e. movies is a whole different ballgame that none of these apps handles AFAIK. Perhaps that isn't what the OP meant though.

My Nero just suddenly quit working entirely. Sad It came with the external cd/dvd writer/burner/whatever thing that I bought. The computer I was using it on didn't have internet and I never knew about updating. Guess I know now why it suddenly quit working. However it still leaves me with a now useless external thingamicbob. I only bought it to burn cds...and now that I can't....it gathers dust. Evil or Very Mad

The question to ask is what do you do?

I mean I download a free cdr burning program that does all my data holding needs and bonus of no enclosed spyware.

http://www.burnatonce.com.

It does some Audio to. I think mainly mp3 to Audio. Very simple program.

But as to burning DVD. Just found out that burnatonce can do DVD but you need to install another program which is commercial and can include small problems like spyware, cost money, or just not work the way you want it.
