|
|
I signed up with KT a few months ago and have had no problems. This is the first time I've had a broadband connection, so I can't really compare it to any other experience.
I opted for the "Premium" service, but I rarely seem to get speeds in excess of 30-70 KB/s with BitTorrent. I'm thinking of switching to the Lite option to save a few bucks.
Do any more experienced people have any advice on the differences between Premium and Lite? On paper the Premium service looked a lot speedier, but I'm beginning to wonder if in real world use I would notice much difference if I switched to Lite.
Appreciate your comments and feedback! |

When I had the LITE service at another apt. a few years ago, I was averaging download speeds of 150k to 300k. That's the same as my current service (my current service is free with this apt for another 7 months). I didn't use it back then, but Shareza will fill up a good 1100k of bandwidth sometimes downloading from multiple sources on this current connection. |

Sorry, I should have been more clear.
Right now I have ADSL premium. Apparently VDSL is not available in my neighbourhood.
According to testing sites like www.dslreports.com I am getting speeds that seem more in the range of Lite service anyway.
My Internet activity falls into three categories: basic web surfing, BitTorrent downloading, and VoIP (using Skype). I'm not sure I'm getting my extra 10,000 won worth from my "premium" connection... |

Interesting. I have the MEGA pass too (which is amazing) I also have bit torrent, and at first, it was insanely fast, downloading at crazy speeds like 300 kbs or more. But then I bought a router so my roomate and I could both use the internet. That slowed things down to about 30 kbs. We didn't know why, and I had a hell of a time trying to fix the problem. But eventually, I did...
I'd suggest your problem isn't with the service itself... its probably that you've got a router, or something blocking your service from the internet. Firewall? I don't really know, but I ended up fixing the problem by following some instructions at a website. I don't have the link on me, but just search "NAT error" in metacrawler to get you started...
If you use Azureus when downloading, and the faces aren't green happy faces, then it is probably a NAT error... |

You have to remember the testing servers for dslreports are not in korea. Thus, any scores you report to them are going against a lot of scores of people in the same country as the testing server.
KT does have their own testing server here in Korea. Forgot the link though.
You will notice that show that are popular with expats in korea, you will get them very fast during their season. Survivor, Amazing Race etc. They will just fly. But you can have a movie that has three times as many seeds but will get it slower. Depends if anyone has it before it leaves to country (things get bottle necked up on Korea's three entry and exit points to the world).
What is the price difference between the two? Like 6.000 a month? |

I was using Azureus for a while, (haven't been downloading lately) and I couldn't figure out why the rest of my internet and download speeds would slow to a crawl when I did.
Finally what worked for me is to go into the settings and change some of the ports for azureus. There are tips and troubleshooting web pages all over the place that suggest more efficient ports. What happens is that most people don't change these and as a result, everyone using the program is using the same default settings and it gets clogged.
Also, whether it's a bit-torrent client or P2P client, monitor or control your upload speeds. When you download one file there are sometimes hundreds of people uploading it from you. This will fill up your bandwidth and slow all your internet functions down.
When I used the regular settings, the download speeds were ok, but the upload speeds were in the 200k's. This translated into minutes sometimes to load a webpage while the program ran in the backgroud, and I have more than enough of a machine to do all that.
The router thing is also a possible problem. A router also acts like a firewall and a lot of P2P clients don't like that. You need to go into your router settings and open up specific ports if you want higher throughput.
These are just some of my experiences.
Good luck with your situation. |
