Vista and IE 7 both cracked and available for download Software security really isn't what the industry wants it to be. Anyhow if you want/need to see Vista or IE 7 I'm sure you'll be able to find it somewhere

Quote:
UPDATED Windows Vista Beta 1Less than 24 hours after Microsoft announced the release of Windows Vista Beta 1 and Internet Explorer 7 Beta 1 to testers and MSDN subscribers, both betas have leaked to Internet sites and newsgroups along with a crack for Windows Product Activation, according to BetaNews sources.

The Vista download weighs in at close to 2.5GB, but the operating system's heft did not keep the pirates away. The next-generation Windows beta likely uses the same activation technology found in Windows XP, which was compromised long ago.

The process for creating (patching) these warez is pretty much software independent, in so far as the patching of Vista or IE would be the same process as for say ... a password protected disk containing pics of your grandma's summer holidays. As far as I understand it, it just takes a little reverse engineering to 'patch' over the machine instructions which bring up the password box at the start.

The reality of this is though, that Micro$oft could implement stronger protection for their disks if they really wanted to.
But why should they ?
The greatest weapon you can have in a networked economy is ubiquity, they have around 90% of the PC market running a MS OS as it is. Even if you don't actually pay for your windows OS, chances are that you do buy some windows applications for it, or you buy games that are made for Windows.

Imagine if they made a fool proof security system for their software. How many people surfing this forum would fork out the 200-300 dollars to pay for a MS OS ? How many would just switch to Linux ? How long would it take games companies like EA to start making their games for *nix systems ? What if computer owners from africa, south america, china were all forced to hand over $100 of their hard earned cash for a microsoft OS ? They'd all switch as well and in the end you'd have a snowball effect which would hurt M$ enormously.

If I was Bill, I'd be handing out pirate copies of vista and IE myself. I wouldn't be at all surprised to find that the 'leaked' password strings aren't coming straight out of redmond with a big red ribbon attached ... more's the pity if you ask me.

If I can buy Vista for 200,000 or less I will. Otherwise I'll just stick to XP.
