Does anyone know of any classes that focus primarily on learning business Korean for foreigners?
Or how about any books or online resources that you'd recommend? |

Korean language teaching just doesn't seem to be very well developed at an advanced level. I'd be surprised to see teaching materials for any specific purpose.
Waterbaby, if I remember right your level of Korean is pretty high so I'd recommend doing what I do when I want to increase my vocab in a specific area. Find a Korean book or two on business and read them. Books that have been translated from English to Korean tend to be a bit easier to read. Write down key vocab words you think are particularly important to know on flash cards and study them. Reading an article or two a day about business on Daum news should also be helpful, and I find Daum news a bit easier to read than most actual newspapers. |

My level of Korean is probably intermediate beginner. I just really want to learn formalities of business meetings, the cultural side of things that goes with it, what's polite, what's not etc. and some basic phrases to give me a bit of an idea of what's going on.
I don't in any way imagine that I would be fully participating in business meetings conducted in Korean, but believe it would be to my advantage when dealing with Korean businesses to be able to speak a little and get the gist of what's going on.

Yeah, I thought it was an off chance kind of thing... I couldn't find anything when I did my own internet search. Was thinking about how "business English" is taught here and was wondering if there would be a similar thing with "business Korean".
I'll check out the Korean language books again before I return to Australia later this week.

Unfortanately it ain't! Especially since leaving Korea almost 18 months ago and not practicing enough
But fortunately my husband TJ speaks excellent Korean and my business partners and I will just have to put him in a suit and pretend he's our CEO when we deal with Korean business people.
Any thoughts on foreign women doing business in Korea?
I'm just wondering how we'll be perceived, accepted (or not) and whether it's best to bring TJ into things (or not). He's not a "salary man" himself and has never worked in a corporate office environment before, so I can't really rely on his advice alone, but he's the best I've got as an itermediary at the moment! |
