Oh fun, here's a great business idea!
Let's make our own little "club" where we all act as recruiters for each other and split the money we make from placing each other.
Hilarious! |

| unfortunately I dont have the heart to accept money for selling someone to an unscrupulous hogwan owner. I would feel like I had an obligation to help out when things invariable go wrong. Not worth the grand IMHO |

Come-on, Grotto!
You're running back home with no job. (not that that won't be me some day)
It would be perfect for you, had you decided to stay! |

Now if we could get enough people into this club to effect the recruiting conditions in Korea that could be really powerful, instead of "so you want to pay 1.8 and have him work saturdays, I think I can perusade someone..." directors will hear "Umm, no thats completely unacceptable we won't be able to find you anyone"
But then again thats probably not going to happen.................... |

So I guess that you'll just stick to sending people threatening PM's for free, then?
Grotto, man of morals. |

They would never say something like.."ok then...I wil contact any of the dozen other recruitement agencies that I can find online in 0.5 seconds"
Also, go for it Derrek!
You will choke in a month after you realize just how many morons, idiots, retards and crazy people you have to deal with to even place one decent teacher.
You really have no idea what recruiting is my friend. In fact, I do not have direct experience either...but know a few decent recruiters who have to deal with morons on a daily basis.
This club would be wonderful.
Unless of course you stick to placing yourself and a few others..then when you split the money you should be making close to 400 000 won per year..whoo hooo....
This was a funny one Derrek..keep em coming mate. |

That's the problem though, you think you have obligations to help out anyone and everyone on this board when quite often your suggestions/advice is simply wrong. You don't realise it, which is the worrying thing. |

this may not be a bad idea, I just got done by a recruiter here ... AGAIN !!!!
And I've been thinking about doing something myself.
It would be cool if the people who have been around a while and know the score actually did something about the ESL industry here instead of just moaning about it ad infinitim ... |

| If the motivation to do this is to counter bad schools and bad recruiters, then you have a very rude awakening coming regarding the prevalence of headaches and stress placed on you from teachers. When I was in this racket, I'd say 70% of the reasons why I got out of it, was because of being screwed and/or let down by teachers. Consider yourself warned. |

Perhaps it could come down to brand awareness. Like an ISO 9001 type recruiting program. Stringent qualifications and background checks to be placed as a teacher. Hagwons personally inspected by teachers combined with references. Charge both application fees and placement fees. If it runs short of teacher candidates, all the better as it could be marketed to increase demand. Premium service, premium quality, premium price. Include a professional advertising campaign directed at the hagwon owners association and parents-- contra'd with translation work or sponsorship of internal resources.
There are a million and one things that could make it fail but just as many things that may not have been tried. |

It seems to me that from the foreign teachers side what is needed in Korea is centralised hiring. Small and medium-sized hagwons and schools, which means virtually all of them, don't have the proper resources and/or know-how for proper recruitment and maintainance of foreign teachers.
To further Hyaculent's idea, why not only just recruit, but actually hire the foreign teachers and dispatch them to hagwons, schools, or wherever. Both schools and teachers could benefit if there was an intermediate who handled the recruitment, contracts, visas, and arbitration. |

Won't the credibility of the group be destroyed after the hakwons discover just how many morons, idiots, retards and crazy teachers there are? |

Set up an internally-controlled arbitration process whereby the hagwon owners can vent steam but have any blackballing of teachers held up to scrutiny?
What if the recruitment was only open to teachers who had already served a year in Korea? It'd cut down on candidates but be a good way to weed the garden. |
