|

Hello Dave's ESL Forum readers,
There is a new flight between Seoul (Incheon) and Bangkok by a Thai discount airline, Orient Thai Airlines. I live in Bangkok and just took the flight round trip to Seoul and back for only 9900 Bt which is 250,000 Won. About the same price as going to Japan from Seoul, I think. The number I have for Incheon Office is (822) 757 6399.
Just to make sure you don't think I am advertising for them, I'll tell you the food was pitiful. When one option is "squid", you gotta go with "beef", and it was pretty dry.
Still, the flight was dirt cheap. I think the fair may go up 20 - 30,000 after June, but still a cheap flight to Bangkok.
From Seoul to Bangkok the flight leaves 11:30 am and arrives 2:30 pm. From Bangkok to Incheon it leaves 01:00 am and arrives 8:00 am so you fell roten the first day in Seoul.
I was the only non-asian on the flight both times out of 200 people, so I just wanted to let the Korea foreigners know about this.
I will be moving to Seoul in September, to study Korean first and then look for a job.
Thanks,
Drew |

Unfortunately the flight leaving Korea is probably not nearly as cheap even if you are using a return ticket.
I found big big differences in flying into Korea compared with flying out of there.
I'd be one of the first buying a ticket if I am wrong. I hope I am. |

It's amazing how much cheaper it is to fly from Narita. |

The Bangkok booking agents might be okay, but after trying to use Orient Thai to book from Incheon to Seoul, I wouldn't recommend them.
I called them about a week and a half ago looking for an RT Incheon-Bangkok with a departure date that was two-and a half weeks away.
The agent told me that inquiries, reservations and bookings could ONLY be made through email, not the telephone. I found that to be very strange, especially considering their website only lists phone numbers, and not email adresses. You would ASSUME that if you are trying to do e-business, pertinent email contacts are vital to success....?
Anyway, after getting the email address, I asked her what she *thought* the chance of availability was. She told me that they can't access that information until ONE WEEK PRIOR TO DEPARTURE. Although this sounded very strange to me, I thought that it would work in my favour - because if I couldn't book a seat until the last minute, then no one else could either.
I asked what the approxiate fare was, and she told me again, that they can't access that information until one week prior to departure. She checked on a flight leaving the next day, and said that a one-month open return was 650,000 won. Now, being that I wanted to book a trip that lasted longer than one week, I asked how I could book a flight a week before I left, and manage to schedule a return fight, if they can't check the seat availability. She said I could only book an open-return. Again, still not making sense to me...cause I still don't know how on earth to book the return date home.
Anyway, I emailled them with the details of my request. No response, but I figured that they just weren't getting back to me because it wasn't within the "one week" window yet, but I emailed them a second time. Again, no response. Today I sent a third email, and told them it was the 3rd time I contacted them, PLEASE could they respond to me.
I got a response a few hours later that said that they had not received any of my previous emails (strange because I picked the address out of my address book, so it wasn't a typo in the address field) and that all of the flights for that date (which, by the way, is still two and a half weeks away) are fully booked.

sounds like a home business to me!
couple of ex travel agents trying to make some extra selling off tickets!
they know the ins and outs of the business so they making some extra!
dude!! 650.000 return! is a joke!!
you should never pay more than 500.000 to BKK!!
ohh then again you want to go in 2 weeks right? so peak season..
emmm still should be flights for 550 or 600

No, it's not a travel agent, it's an airline....a discount one, but I still expected things to make a wee bit more sense . . . |

travel agents, almost without exception, are only offered discounts from their own country....so the fare from BKK to ICN from a thai agent will not be priced in the same range as the one from ICN to BKK...the price should be the same or close to the price you would pay at a discount agent in Korea. |

When is it NOT peak season to go to thailand? or better yet, when is the best possible time? I'm hoping to go there on my vacation, but don't know much planning it yet. |
