A couple of years back I remember glancing at an article in some newspaper about a Japanese author who wrote a bestselling book along the lines of things to do before you turn 30.

Who's the author and what's the title?

You can google dozens and dozens of books about what to do before you die but in a quick search I only found one about turning 30:

30 Things Everyone Should Know How to Do Before Turning 30

That's probably not it.

I wanted the book mentioned above because it was pretty popular, but I ended up with 2Do Before I Die. I just want it as a central conversation book for a class next semester.
