Hi All,
I have sent about 7 emails out applying for various teaching jobs in South Korea. I have Korean teaching experience, I have all the paperwork ready. No replies, nothing. How long should I wait to bother these people. Have things changed? Anybody got any advice about this? Last year, I had people beating down my door. Am I being impatient? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

You have Korean experience, so you should remember that Koreans don't respond to e-mails. You have to:
a) Continue to apply for other jobs
b) Assume your application was received and send a follow-up about one week later
c) Keep track of which jobs you applied for that have deadlines--nothing will happen till after the deadline |

Our college was looking to hire a new English teacher for the fall semester. I sent out personal notices to 10 potential applicants I had found, after browsing resumes posted on another website. You know how many responses I got? 2!!
You and I should have hooked up.
I really believe that, despite all the talk of finding a good job, only a very small percent of teachers want to "step up" to the college/uni level. |

I think this month is the gut of the application process....it's August and schools are probably getting plenty of apps. for September positons (granting if you're applying for public or uni jobs). Right now, they're probably shifting through apps. and getting ready to make contacts. Just be patient and continue to send the resumes out....someone will bite. |

Thanks for all your input. I wasn't looking at University jobs. I haven't seen too many openings on that front lately. These were recruiters and hogwans not responding to me. Oh well, I'll be patient. Thanks again.

Hi I amBabo
I think we are in the same boat. I have e-mailed about 10 different recruiters etc and not had much response either.
Have you posted your CV on worknplay.co.kr? I found that was quite effective. |

You know, I was waiting for that question. I am 34. I thought that might be an issue. What you think? |

No...still too young to be an issue, 34 is still fine as far as I know(well the recruiters I know - they say as soon as it gets to 40 it is a different story) |

Are you using hotmail, and are they using a Korean address?
Sometimes the e-mails get blocked. |

As far as I know, most unis recruit 4-6 months before the semester begins. Those who're looking for applicants at this late stage are the ones who got screwed over by candidates that initially said yes, but have since bailed... |
