Great news. A historic day.

They've done a lot of horrible damage in the past. But in recent years they've moved into more gangster type activity but there have still been some pretty nasty incidents.

It may never have happened without Clinton, that guy really helped the peace process.

A temporary ploy, to maintain support. I can't believe the IRA would stop the armed struggle before a united Ireland. They will keep a paramilitary capability, no doubt about it- and use if necessary.

Their problem is that Al-Quaeda has made them look bad. I doubt many americans are keen on funding terrorism, of any kind, after 9/11.

I didn't realize you were privy to the executive council meetings. But then that would explain where you learned to make bombs to throw.

What is the percentage of protestants in Northern Ireland now?
I read it as 58%
That is the sticking point of re-unification. If the majority of people in Northern Ireland actually wanted to be part of a republic life would be very easy. Likewise if almost half the population didn't want to, life would be very easy.

My skepticism is based on having lived 4 years in Northern Ireland.
American support is all important for McGuiness and Adams, as they make the transition from terrorists to world statesmen.

I can never envision "life being very easy there". Too much distrust and hatred for that now. The future of protestants must be ensured.

Might I just add that Belfast is the most happening,interesting city in Britain. Cool

Sein Fein/IRA know they have time on their side, and are counting on Catholics outbreeding Protestants to bring about a united Ireland.

I thought they did that like the day after 9/11. I remember some kind of announcement from them then. I was in Taiwan so I didn't get a very clear picture of the world though...

Wow. Indeed...seems the Middle East is well on its way as well with the scheduled Gaza strip withdraw...ALL ya need is love...bah bah dah dah dah.
