Good info.
There are also a bunch of funny things you can do to minimize your tax liability over here. For example, I applied for an extension on my filing date so I'll pass the "physical presence test" for 2004 -- even though I only moved to Korea in September 2004! My new tax day is September 15, and I'll get to write off all of my Korean income.
I wouldn't have figured this out only with Publication 54 though. I called the IRS International Tax Law hotline at (215) 516-2000 and they came up with the plan. Surprisingly (for a government agency) they don't make you wait on hold too long, and they're extremely helpful. |

Thanks for the tax info. A few years ago I had some tax issues crop up while over here working (inheritance). The IRS was extremely helpful. They actually hooked me up with one of their tax attorneys and he came-up with a great plan whereby I avoided all tax liabilities.
You always hear how nasty and evil the IRS are but I found the exact opposite if you are willing to work with them. |
