Morning rush hour... the unfortunate guy hit near the edge of an intersection, on a pedestrian crossing. RIP, and commiserations.
didn't see it happen, arrived a minute or two after the event.
The dude looked pretty crumpled- one leg stuck in theair, looks like the vehicle actually went over him.
A policeman hurriedly throwing all his scatterred belongings, bag etc onto the nearby pavement. A long line of traffic backing up behind him.
Savage. First one i've actually seen in korea. looks like he either tried to cross before the green, or was hit by a car overlapping the red light.
be careful in the morning rush traffic people:)
-Anyone else seen accidents here. |

I've seen a company worker getting his head repeatedly stamped on when he was already unconcious in the road by two young guys. When i ran down to help him they had already legged it on a scooter.
I sent my girlfriend for an ambulance and did what i could but he was dead by the time the ambulance and the police came. |

That's terrible. Korea is generally a very safe country...except as a pedestrian. I've had soooo many close calls with cars and those idiotic scooter guys.
I did see an accident a couple years back. Hubby and I were cruising downttown and saw a guy who crashed his scooter (don't know if a car hit him or if he just crashed it himself). There was alot of blood coming from his head and some ajumma was there shaking him, trying to get him to wake up. Never knew what happened...if he died or recovered. Hope it was the latter.
Take care and look both ways out there. |

Seen a few accidents in my time here. The last one was a scooter driver. It always amazes me that the first reaction of the first person there is to try to pull the person to their feet.
REALLY bad idea if they have a neck injury. |

To add to that, be careful getting off the bus. |

So, you actually saw someone murdered here?
Actually, I've seen almost exactly the same thing in Itaewon. 2 on 2, though, and the guys lived. The whole kick 'em while they're down thing is so endearing. Been on the receiving end of that, too.
As for accidents, sure, seen and been in a quite a few. |

A multi-vehicle crash. You know, on the freeway when someone stops and there's a chain reaction. Two fire engines (!) were involved along with two vans with wedding guests. This was near Tongyeong.
Another time an elderly woman had one of her feet run over. She was too close to traffic and a car ran over her foot. I felt that one because I've been run over like that. |

Was on an inter-city bus once, hit a kid. I had just closed my eyes, to sleep, and then bump-bump. Kid was playing on the road, mother was screaming, picked the kid up and put him in some guy's car. Took him to the hospital, but I never knew what happened. Doubt he lived.
One of my biggest problems is those damn scooters/delivery guys driving on the sidewalks, while families with children in strollers are there. It makes me so mad, sometimes wish I had a weapon or something. Some young guy, who can't possibly be legal to drive, hotdogging it on the sidewalk. |

Having driven a motorcycle and a scooter in this country I can honestly say that I don't get the sidewalk thing. The roads are BY FAR easier to drive on as they are smooth and not filled with ambling pedestrians. I make allowances for the guys who pull up real quick to park, but most of them spend their whole day on the sidewalk. Whats up with that? |

You have to add to that the fact that they delivery guys are driving with one hand.
Nuts. |

What's worse is the car drivers in the apt building complex parking lots and side streets who think they're Mario Andretti. You know they're almost certainly fathers, and they know as well as anyone that kids are running all over place, blading and biking and dodging between parked cars and chasing each other as kids do, yet these assholes insist on driving at top speeds. They'd probably have to run over their own kids before they'd stop, and even then I'd have my doubts. |

Yeah I posted about it before. The guy died right there on the road from head injuries.I did CPR on him but it didnt work.
The next day we had to go to the police station to ID the suspects. But I refused because all their of relatives were lined up outside in the corridor and they knew who we were.Fortunately the two chicken gangsters who did it coughed up that night and we didnt have to get any more involved. |

does anyone know the phrase for, "Hey idiot...[get off the sidewalk!] OR [slow down]"?
I think that could come in handy
As a driver here, I think it's absolutely ludicrous that some of these people are even allowed to be passengers in a scooter, let alone driving a big dump truck, a bongo, or even a equuis.
Everyone (well, that's a stereotype...85%) of the driver's here are totally retaaahded. |

slow down is chunchun i.
I nearly have accidents every day on my motorbike. very frustrating when all the person pulling out in front of you had to do was look both ways before doing something........like FREAKIN STOPPING!! Or not pulling out half way through the free right hand turn and THEN stopping for a quick look. I lost count of the times I've stopped to kick a few doors on my way past followed by some loud expletives and a point to my eyes! |
