I'm watching it right now.....it's nearly over. I like it, but I'm hopelessly confused, and yes, I watched it with English subtitles.

Someone please explain the plot to me. I couldn't follow it. I ran a search online, but couldn't find anything useful. Sad

Now I'm curious too. I remember seeing this movie many years ago but don't remember the plot. I looked it up on google and found that the Korean version is a remake of the old one. In the Korean version the orphan girl finds some desparate letter on her computer. In the American version the ophan has a wealthy benefactor who comes to a dance and doesn't tell her who he is. They fall in love. I'm not sure what the parallels are. The plots don't sound the same but maybe this will help you figure it out or maybe someone else will come to our rescue.

I realize this thread has been dead a long time, but I just watched that movie and thought that I might shed some light on the movie, should any of the original posters be interested. That being said...

****Spoiler Alert****

So the main character, Cha Young Mi's parents died when she was young, and she has always had this secret benefactor who she has never met. She calls him her Daddy Long Legs. She wonders who he is, but continues on with her life. She ends up getting a job as a writer for a radio program, and she meets this guy, a librarian named Kim Joon Ho. She also moves into a co-worker's house, who she is told is away for an extended period of time.

One day while working on her writing, she needs to use the orignal house owner's computer. Upon turning on the computer, she recieves an email, which is one that the owner had sent to themselves 1 year ago. As she reads the email, Young Mi learns that the owner wrote the email 1 year ago and set it to be delivered exactly one year later. The contents are about her(Young Mi believes the house-owner to be female) unrequited love. Through the course of many emails, Young Mi learns of the history of this girl's love for this guy that she has observed from afar. The girl now suffers from a progressive, degenerative disease that will kill her and is also destroying her memory at the same time, so she is chronicling her love so she will not forget it and so she can tell the man one day. Young Mi begins to search for this guy so she can tell him about this other girl.

At the same time, Young Mi and Joon Ho start seeing more of each other, and soon, a romance begins between the two of them. Eventually, Young Mi learns that her Daddy Long Legs had a hand in her getting her current job, and she gets her supervisor to tell her the identity of her Daddy Long Legs. She goes to confront him, and it turns out to be the head of the radio station, who is quite wealthy. Young Mi asks him why, and he tells her that it is for his brother, who is Joon Ho. A sereis of revelations happen, and Young Mi realizes that the girl in all those emails, is actually Joon Ho, a guy, and the man in the email that she has been searching for is actually her. So her Daddy Long Legs has been supporting her because his dying brother has been in love with her.

Joon Ho's memory had degraded to the point that he did not remmeber his love for Young Mi when they "first met" when she started working at the radio station, yet they fell in love with each other anyways. In the end, Joon Ho dies of his degenerative disease and things end on a semi-sad tone. There is more to the movie, but that is the basic plot as I remember it.

*** End Spoiler ***
