I was just wondering, but do you guys/gals walk on an escalator or just stand there and enjoy the free ride like me.

I've always grown up to let the escalator do the work for me. But I've noticed that almost half of the people I've seen walk the escalator.

I always walk.
It drives me crazy when two people stand beside each other instead of leaving a lane for people to walk up or down.

I prefer to stand and let the machine do all the work. Besides, it gives me an opportunity to see if the hand rail thingie is in synch with the floor. A lot aren't. Life is just full of surprises.

I use the stairs whenever I can. It's usually faster.

my favorite thing about escalators is when you have someone who gets to the top/bottom and stands there trying to figure out what to do next and then you run over them and they give you that wounded puppy look Rolling Eyes

I take my princess time waiting on the escalator and my husband will hoof it up the stairs...always. He'll even run up those ghastly stairs that are a mile high at Itaewon station.....what, does he want to be healthy and fit or something!? Wink

I've actually taken to reading my book on escalators. Both of the stations I frequent have several escalators, so I start reading going down to the train and finish reading when I come up the last escalator.

Obviously I don't walk on the escalators if I'm doing this.

I like to stop just before I get on an escalator and decide for a few seconds if I really want to go in that direction.

You may have met me before- I'm also the person who likes to have conversations in the middle of the only doorway, and I like to leap into the elevator as soon as the doors open, before the people who are getting off have a chance to get out.

I stand behind them (if they are Korean) and just clear my throat very loudly.. annoys me.. but oh well if i'm not in a rush it doesn't bother me.. just when i miss the subway because of it.. Evil or Very Mad

Most Koreans are pretty good in the subway about obeying the "stand right, walk left" rule. Sometimes you get the clueless old person or the attached-at- the-hips young couple who refuse to stand single file.

If the stairs are not like the stairs in the line 7/2 Konkuk transfer I'll actually take the stairs. It's added exercise. If the stairs are a real brutal climb, I'll take the escalator and walk left.
