of why Korea will never be considered as long-term/desirable. My friend hasn't been paid in over two months despite my advice that he should walk. He has been receiving one-fourth of his pay. The corrupt director says that he'll throw him on the street if he walks. I just don't understand how he can stay there and even remotely teach any classes well knowing that he will only receive a fraction of his pay and is getting deeper in lost wages. I've told him to go to the vaunted Labor office and they've told him that he has to wait for 3-4 weeks before anything can be done. Real helpful. His boss has also told him that he won't give a release letter. Bullocks. If you can't get help from people who are supposed to assist you in such matter, where can you go. These petty hagwon directors have way too much power here and the system boosts them in everyway. They have all the advantage. It is ridiculous. If he has the courage to walk, he'll have a place...but then what? He does have the option to get on the airplane and leave but he wants to stay in Korea. If only he would listen to me and tell the fucker that he won't work another second until his entire earnings are deposited..................

Stop working for hogwons. Stop accepting employment offers from them altogether.

Sorry but this is a case of your friend being a sucker for punishment. OOOH the director says he'll throw him on the street if he walks- kind of an empty threat, don't ya think?, So long as the guy is actually qualified, I'm sure he can find a school that'll hire him and " help" with the letter of release.

For the letter of release. All you need to do is fill it out, demand your director sign it...if they refuse you can submit it to the labour board and make a note that the hogwan refused to sign it.

About your buddy. Nobody can get walked on unless they lie down and ask for it.

How can his boss throw his out if he walks? Only if he tries to stay in his apartment--if he walks he can walk away from it too.

yeah they cant kick you out of your apartment for 30 days anyways
well legally they need to give you 30 days notice....but since when has legalities ever stopped a Korean?

If your friend is inviting aggression, he needs to give it back.
Going to the director with a list of demands and then telling him the case will be taken to the labor dept. for starters.
If the school can't pay your friend, it means the school is going to go under, if he's not getting paid then why is he still working,the school needs a FT, without it the school will go further down, what his director is doing is getting all he can from your friend untill he goes bust.
There are a lot of jobs available he should look for another.
