depends on the split
But as a rule of thumb I just say no to splits banana and workwise. |

So long as you're a morning person and there's no commute involved, it's not bad. It means there's lots of time to do stuff like banking and grocery shopping etc when places aren't crowded. |

All other things considered equal, I'd say blocks are always better than splits. Splits mean commuting twice, and frequently make it tough to get a decent night's sleep or do anything on your own during the week.
However, they seem to be the inevitable price to be paid for teaching adults on a full-time basis. You can't help but work around their work day, so it's pretty much impossible to get many classes during the afternoon. If you want to get away from teaching kids, splits can be worth it.
If you must work splits, though, make sure it's a single split (i.e. morning classes, long break, then evening classes). Multiple splits mean that your life will consist of nothing but working and waiting to work.
Nothing is worth that. |

In my experience, I couldn't enjoy the long break in the middle of the day. I mean, going out for lunch was nice, having time to go to the bank, health club or whatever was good...but always in the back of my mind was that I had to go back to work. Not relaxing. Also it meant having to work when everyone else was free. So while getting to work with adults was great, there was no time to meet them outside of class.
I also had a problem with relaxing after work at night. Once my engines are revved up to go, it's hard to unwind at 9 o'clock at night. About the only thing to do is go to a bar, then end up staying up too late.
In short, if you are the kind of person who can unwind easily twice a day, then split shifts might be for you. If you have trouble, then you'll be exhausted all the time. |

I hate my split shift. I work for a little in the morning and then come back in the afternoon to teach for 4.5 hours. It might be better if my longer shift were in the morning but I'm in work mode for most of the day (can't relax, can only think about when I need to be back at work) and around 5-5:30 I am spent and then only have 3-4 more classes to teach. It's oodles of fun. |

Yeah, you've got a split shift teaching kids. IMHO a 10am-9pm split teaching kids is more tiring than a 7am-9:45pm split teaching adults. |

Split shifts can suck, but so can teaching 6 or 7 classes straight without a break.
Personally, I liked the split in some ways, I always had time to do some extra prep before those evening classes.
But come to think of it, teaching until 9:00pm and then having to do interviews till 9:30 and then having to be back at 7:00 am did suck.
Like someone said, if the commute isn't too far, it can be OK. but if it's a long commute it's a "double sucks"!! |

Thanks for all your input. This job has a start time of 630am, work until 930am, then go back at 630pm, finish at 930pm. I think I can have the job, if I want. But, when someone said "morning person", that's not me. I guess I'll move on, but thanks again all.

I had that same split back in when I worked for п. (I'm not a morning person either, but I loved it.
Got up early, taught, went home, slept, got up, ate, taught, went to hapkido, went home, prepped, read, slept, and did the whole cycle again.
My place was only a five-minute walk to the school, so that helped. Probably one of my most productive years. |

And I know the joys of both..... Well 6 classes but there are breaks. 5 whole minute breaks. My job really does suck. |
