|
|
I found a sweet job for a friend of mine -- a PR position at a major hotel. She came to Korea 2 weeks ago, had an interview, was offered the job and went back home awaiting her visa.
We just got word that the E-7 was rejected and the hotel is giving up on applying again.
I am also on an E-7 and it was a bitch getting mine approved (took over 3 months) -- It wasn't until the Managing Director of my company physically went down to immigration and hammered it out with them. I really don't think that this hotel has the pull that my present company has so I don't think that that approach will work...
Does anyone know any other way around this little problem? |

Was the letter from the ministry denied, or did immigration deny the visa? They may feel the need to have it proven that only a foreigner can do the work, blah blah blah suck up to the ministry BS.
I don't know if there's a way around it, but the E-7 is definitely a fickle little creature. |

The guy said in the email "the Seoul Immigration Bureau" if that helps any. |

Then that's fucked up. Once you've got the letter, I thought it was supposed to be easy.
Hopefully someone's got some advice for you. |

Did your friend get a letter from a ministry of sort?
When I came into Korea, I was invited by the Ministry of Information and Technology. With that letter, there was no way they could deny me a visa.
I don't think you can get a E-7 visa without a letter of invitation. |

yes.. you need a letter from the head of the government department which oversees the industry you want to work in; in my case this was the financial services authority, (spelling may be wrong..) but once you have this, everything else should just be a formality.
they have to be convinced that you have some kind of special ability or training that means you should be given the job rather than a korean, but sadly you still get treated like a criminal when you visit immigration or come and go from korea. |

One note: you don't need a letter of recommendation if you have a marriage visa. Getting my E-7 has always been a piece of cake.

You don't even need a visa if you have an F visa. Just permission to work. |

To expand this a little further, sparks.... since you don't seem to understand what I am saying:
I have an F-2-1. When I went to get it after I got married, the immigration officer told me I could either renew my E-7 or just get a stamp that says I am permitted to engage in activities not specified in sojourn (or some such words). They told DH that the basic difference is in the sponsorship. An E-7 visa is sponsored by the company. A work permit is sponsored by your spouse. The main benefit of a work permit is that if anything happens to your work position, you can just run and there is no repercussion. The same cannot be said about an E-7 visa. Because it is so difficult to get it to begin with, you need to be really responsible with it or the Ministry that invites you get a lot of hassle from it.
It's the same with an E-2 visa for teaching. If you want to run, you need a release letter. If you just have a work permit, you can switch jobs whenever you want.
So you can either get a visa or a work permit.. the choice is yours. I know I prefer a work permit because it's less of a hassle. |

Gotcha. I was just musing over your paradoxical explanation.
