I am an American. I understand that I have to take a test (I hear it is pretty easy). I have a few questions:

1. How much is it for your license?
2. Is the test in Korean or English?
3. How many questions are there and how many can you miss and still pass?
4. I don't have my driver's license with me (lost it). Can I still get one?

Thanks all.

Smile

If you can have it re-issued you get it transferred over, this is the easiest way. If you can't, you have to go through the process like a local.

If you want to go the whole official route:

1. Eye exam-W4,000
2. Multiple choice exam-W5,000
3. 3 hour safety lecture-W12,000
4. Driving course exam-W13,000
5. Road exam-W18,000

These cannot be done on the same day, if you fail one you pay the fee again and make another reservation. It's a pain in the behind and takes multiple trips to the DLA office.

The multiple choice is in English, at least at the Gangnam office. Everything else is in Korean.

The multiple choice has 50 questions, you need to get 30 right. The other exams are more complicated and no study material is in English.

Actually, very few people have gone the whole route. If he can't produce a licence he will have to. Most people just have a Korean one issued on the basis of their home licence.
