I started my current job on the April 1st of this year. I am already trying to plan for next year and think of my possible options. I would like to try and get either a public school job or university position, but I think the timing will be off by a few weeks since the school year starts in early March? I am not interested in staying with my current hagwon for more than 1 year...so here are some plans that I have thought of:
Get a 90 day visa once my E2 expires and rent an officetel of my own. Try to live off my savings and do some side work if possible.
Try to get a guaranteed job for Fall '06, go back to America for 4 months, then come back to Korea and get ready for the new position.
Go to Japan for a few months.

Does anyone know about the timing for when these public school jobs start, and will I be out of luck as far as the timing goes? Thanks

Why not go back and fly your F-14s for the Navy? Or was that offer only good back when you were a good-looking guy looking for extra money?

Seriously though, I've known people to get public school gigs in April, just depends on how badly the school needs someone and how open the person is to starting quickly. My guess is that the universities will be a bit more selective and need you to begin in February or so.

You told us you were accepted by the navy to be an F18 pilot and your entry was delayed so your plan was to be a hagwon teacher for a year. What happened to the navy job?

yes, i know thats what i said and that is still my plan....i never said i was definitely staying here beyond a year, im just looking at my options.
thank you for the information, but can you please not bring up stuff that is at least 9 months old? its people like you who have a bad attitude and bring stuff up like this that makes me not enjoy my time here. even with the other foreigners here in my city, any time i pass by i'll give a polite smile or nod, and 90% of the time they either give me a dirty look like 'wtf are you looking at' or just ignore me. i have given up on trying to be polite here, but maybe its just the area i live in

Due to various factors beyond Canada's control, the U.S. Airforce had to reduce the size of it's airforce by one plane.

Sorry CustomX,

Schools will often be flexible about start times, especially if they have no real choice. If you have not used your vacation time, you might save it to get out a few days earlier into March.
