Seoul Schools to Focus More on National Security

The Seoul Metropolitan Office of Education has pledged more teaching on national security and Korean unification to instill a sense of civic duty among children. The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology earlier revised teaching guidelines for civics textbooks for middle school to be published in 2011, warning authors off content that is ideologically biased in favor of North Korea.
The education office on Wednesday said it is revising education about national unification, which has focused on promoting a sense of nationhood and mutual understanding between the two Koreas, in the direction of strengthening education on national security and pride in their country as well as unification.

It said the aim is to offer balanced education taking the reality on the Korean Peninsula into consideration.

The office also plans to strengthen history education to motivate students to defend their country against China's "Northeast Project," which is seen as an attempt to co-opt early Korean history, and Japan's claim to Dokdo. It will develop study materials on Dokdo for schools in Seoul and plans to help students and teachers visit the islets, the office said.

I'd say that's better than fostering likemindedness with NK.
