Quote:
On any given weekend, from dusk to dawn and beyond, you will see parading US GI's, Russian pimps, drunk Arabs, wasted Koreans and zombie-like English teachers swarming the main thoroughfare, all in the pursuit of pleasure.....

And if you are coming to Korea next week and are wondering where to meet Korean women amenable to westerners "charms..." well that takes us full circle. Yes, Itaewon is the place to go. And for the English teachers that live in Seoul, Itaewon means only one place...Hollywoods.

Unlike the majority of other bars in the area, Hollywoods features a female clientele that aren't working, in the strictest sense anyway. And this is the main reason that Hollywoods attracts as many women as it does men. Yes, every weekend hordes of goggle eyed expats stand around Hollywoods' dance floor ogling the nymph-like Korean waifs that dance on seductively. The number of ageing Western men that have beautiful young Koreans draped all over them is staggering, and a real indicator of why so many English teachers stay in Korea for years at a time.

If you can't get a girl in your local town, don't worry! Come to Korea and find a beautiful Korean girl who will be with you simply because you are western, loaded, or both. While this might seem like an overly cynical attitude, one trip to Hollywoods on a Saturday night will turn you into a believer.....

So is this a bad thing or a good thing?

Does this mean the latest fashion statement by waygookin dudes in Seoul is goggles? I thought it was ratty stocking caps pulled down below the ears. At least it was 3 weeks ago. My, you guys are slaves of fashion. I can't keep up.

Another classic from our friend Conor Purcell.

If anyone can explain to me (including the author) the focus of this piece of "journalism", I'll by you a kettle at Polly's.

This guy must've written about 50 articles about English teachers, Korean xenophobia, and Itaewon by now. All of them have the same bland I-have-an-axe-to-grind cliche shock-journalism aspect about them. Apparently creativity or diversity are not among Purcell's finer points as a "journalist".

Really, why am I even bothering to respond to this? It doesn't deserve one.

This article is not only old but it's a pile of slop that has zero connection with reality. Conor Purcell is a plagiarist who left the land of the morning calm in disgrace with the arse hanging out of his pants. He owed numerous people cash and was basically on skid row until his old ma wired over some money to fly him back to Ireland. Goodbye and good riddance!

Exactly!
This article is actually a couple of years old. Why is the seoul times publishing it again? Trying to rile people up again to get more hits on their site I guess.
Did this clown actually get paid for writing this childish crap?

Why did this stupid article reappear? That's easy. Because VC is probably Conor Purcell posting in desperate need of an ego boost. How's life on the dole in Ireland Conor? Or is it Taiwan? And for everyone's information, Purcell was never paid for his scribblings. The Seoul Times, which was managed on a free and strictly part-time basis by an Irishman named Mark Basquille, published Purcell's jibber despite almost daily protests from the expatriate community in Korea.
