I know, kind of a broad question! But my friends are arriving from China is a few hours and I reserved them a motel in Shinchon, and now I'm trying to come up with a bunch of ideas for things to do with them this weekend (they are here till Sunday evening). On Sunday we are going to Insa-dong with a Korean friend so I need ideas for tonight (not really sure as they might be really tired) and tomorrow all day.

Some ideas I had: Gyongbuk Palace (something I've already done but would be fine to do again), Dongdaemun or Namdaemun (haven't done either as I've been so busy with studying), and maybe Seoul Tower or the riverboat ride around Yeouido at night. It's hard since the guy (my friend from college) likes history stuff, and his wife (Chinese) doesn't want to go to a lot of museums, and wants to go shopping.

Any better ideas? It's hard to show people around a city you don't know well yourself! (I've only been here two months).

Another idea: both like music, all kinds pretty much, so... are there any good concerts happening anywhere in Seoul this Saturday? I saw on TV that there's a show with Psy, Pia, bunch of DJs, but couldn't find any info about venue, ticket availability or price...Or any small clubs that would be cool to go to to give my friends an idea of Seoul nightlife?

Both are also real foodies, so what are Korean foods that they have to try (I'm sure they've already tried basics like bibimbap)? I think we may go have dalk galbi in Shinchon tonight, but I'm looking for other foods/particular restaurants that won't break the bank but that are good and representative of Korean food.

If you're reading and have any ideas please respond soon...they'll arrive in my neighborhood in a couple hours!

Thanks!!

Palaces, Jongmyo in the daytime
Dongdaemun and Myoungdong at night
and Galbi house around Shinchon
Hongdae clubbing would be good too.

this saturday, dont't forget <LAIN> concert!
06:30 PM in Seoul Plaza(in front of Seoul Met City Hall)
LAIN's concept is world music heard through Korean traditional instruments. A full range of tunes including children's songs, cartoon themes, Korean and foreign pop music are interpreted and performed. sounds cool.

dongdaemun is OK, but namdaemun is a great, great place. If you sit at one of the food stalls in a busy area you can eat, drink, and watch the madness around you for ages. It's not particularly cheap though, so beware of just going mental and eating everything in sight.

If they're big foodies like you say, maybe you could go to noryangjin fish market? Pick some ingredients (crabs, prawns, loads of kinds of fish) and the stall owners will give them to the restaurants in the same building who will serve it all up for you with soup, rice, drinks etc.
Noryangin subway station, line 1.

Swiss James-

Too late, they've come and gone! But we had a great time in Dongdaemun, Insa-dong, etc.

Thanks,

there's the "fringe festival" in hongdae this weekend. not sure exactly what's going on, but i heard there'll be a lot of street performers and such. should be fun, as hongdae always is.

Ooh, a fringe festival sounds fun. And there's a holiday on Monday, too (at least for me). Does it go all three days all day? If anyone finds any information please post it!

Thanks!
