I'm coming to Korea pretty soon and I was looking into cell phone usage, and I am confused on a couple points. Could somone help?

I see all these references to 010 and 019 phones. What are people talking about? What do the numbers mean, and what is the difference between them?

I've also read that Verizon users can bring their phones over because SK teleocm uses CDMA800. I have Sprint as my provider and my phone is a dual band/tri mode that operates in CDMA 1.9 Ghz as well as CDMA 800 digital and analog. Will this phone work in Korea at all? For reference it is the Toshiba VM4050.

Thanks!!

010, 019, etc., are area codes created just for cell phones. My teacher insisted 010 gets the best service, so that's what I wound up with, but I couldn't really say.

As far as I know, only LG Telecom will give foreigners their own cell phone service (in the foreigner's name).. You can get other companies services but it will have to be in the name of a Korean. I am not sure if they will use your phone or not.

You can get a card phone service, where you pay an amount of money use it up and then pay some more, but it is kind of hokey-pokey.

I enjoy having the monthly service.

Best of Luck,

NK.
