I have a registered personal address with MSN. Today I got two e-mails from webmaster@my address and support@myaddress. Both mails include some vague message with an attachment. Of course, I have not opened the attachments.

I know that the attachments have a virus. How was someone able to use my personal address? This is related to a business, so I'm sure a competitor is trying to do me harm. We have contacted MSN through a feedback address.

This is criminal activity I'm sure. What steps can I take to nail the custard who is doing this? Any advice, Dave?

Are you serious?
Without more specific info to go on, it just sounds like you fell off a turnip cart and are the last person on the face of the earth to know that MSN & hotmail accounts are spammer-magnets.

Thanks for nothing, BS-Jo.

What I posted was likely what everyone else who read your post was also thinking.
Post more details, maybe somebody can help you. That is the message my post was communicating.
Did you not notice the words without more specific info to go on?

I used to get spam that appeared to be originating from myself.
It's just a standard spammer's tool, nothing too sinister, and it doesn't positively indicate that a business competitor has taken to personally targetting your account. If you have that level of paranoia I strongly suggest that you don't want to be using MSN or Hotmail email accounts.

So, what business are you in?

Recruiting teachers?

Am I right?

(If I am then maybe it's me who is targeting you...)

It's impossible to properly nail custard as it is largely a liquid.

Hope this helps.

This is actually fairly common. Happens with some of my site's email. It isn't a competitor, it's a virus. It's likely a variant of the SoBig or Klez viruses. Different variants of viruses have the ability to forge email addresses and send out attachments using it. Over 80% of emails sent are virus, spam, and other stuff like this.
