|

I have heard it said, or some smart person wrote that, "women are infinitely more subtle than men." Do you suppose this is true? Or are men just a lot more dense about some things? I have six brothers and no sisters, and a crazy (but very nice) mother (whom I do love), so I have spent a lot of time clueless. |

I don't know if that's true for all women. I'm always putting my damn foot in my mouth |

one major payoff with doing all this hapkido stuff I've been doing is that i can now actually get my foot in my mouth......
not really related to the thread and probably not much use in a self-defense situation.... but you have to admit its a pretty impressive feat
(feet) of flexibility... |

On Dave's source of wisdom here recently a poster mentioned how mixed messages don't bother men, but can cause women to become hysterical. I get a laugh out of that. Their super subtlety (high brain activity in the communication part of their brain) starts short-circuiting? They start filling in the gaps and jumping to conclusions like the pre-emptive summing up of an overly sensitive person?
The hysterical, chattering women at my work were driving me mad until I turned them off. I pointed the air-con remote at them and they froze mid-sentence. |

Also I have heard that women tend to fear rejection more than men. I don't know for sure if that is true, but if so, it may be a reason why they sometimes state things in an ambiguous manner?
From what I have gathered upon the wastepile of my experiences, many women will suggest interest but leave the door ajar enough so that any response will leave them seemingly unscathed. But they will sit on their tender branch of solicitude and await the oncomer, expectant of his delivery, and reciprocate his approach. (Whatever the hell that means)
Usually they are warm and reciprocal, which I appreciate. I have rarely experienced direct chill in their replies to my hopes.
(Damn I'm on a poetic roll ) |

So jaj, did you decide on where to take the lady on your date? Bowling is always a good idea...lighthearted and don't need to talk too much if you are uncomfortable |

I'm 100% serious. Why is that a bad idea? You can laugh if you're terrible, cheer if you're good, talk a little or a lot....Bowling as a date option rocks! Give it a try |

I wouldn't use the word "subtle" as much as "caluculating" and perhaps "judgmental" or "intolerant" -- neither of which is not quite the same as "manipulative," another word I wouldn't use. In any case, any time a group of girlfriends get together, there's always something conspiratorial or at least gossipy about it.
Monica Lewinski's calculations, to cite one famous example, weren't quite subtle, were they? I mean showing the President a glimpse of your g-string to get his attn isn't exactly, subtle, is it?
I love women (mostly), but it would do most of them well to relax a bit.
I'm talking about tendencies, of course, and not generalizations about all women throughout history... |

I'd say women are subtle but they don't have any more information to go on, any more perceptive ability, than men. They feel compelled to make 'intuitive' assessments flowing along with their hefty emotional intelligence. They need to sum things up and sew them up. To make safe structures in which to build (relationships, homes).
They aren't mind readers but keep pluggin' away at it until they get a bullseye. Call it social housekeeping, social responsibility, or just being a busybody. Never a dull moment, anyway. |

Maybe "subtlety" was a word some guy used to describe female behavior he did not understand. In which case we may all be subtle at times, too subtle to understand each other or ourselves. I think "subtle" implies "careful" but also, something that one must be attentive to, or will miss the meaning of.
Or are women generally more attentive to detail, or more meticulous than guys? In some things perhaps. |

I like to think about attractive women, olive oil and shower curtains
What do you think about that? |
