Just wondering if anyone knows where there is a bowling alley in Seoul...preferably near Gangnam. If so, can you tell me where it is/how to get there? |

Walk around and look for buildings with 3 metre tall bowling pins on the roof or in front of the entrance. |

In Gangnam, there is one right across from Kyobo Bookstore, if you know where that is. You'll see a Kolon Motors, and the bowling alley is right next to that. |

Near Itaewon, there's one underneath Hannam Supermarket in the Volvo Building.
Get off the subway at HanGangJin station, walk towards Hannam Bridge, cross the footbridge and you're very close. 2nd basement of the volvo building.
On Saturday nights they turn the lights down low.. and the balls glow in the dark.
We usually would stop in at Hannam on the way down, pick up a dozen quality beers and some doritos, and have an evening of it.

Been sooooo long since I was in a bowling alley in the West. Do they let bowlers drink there (as in sell them booze on the premises)? I know they do here, and I've been out with people getting seriously tanked and throwing balls all over the place. Some Korean group next to us were knocking back the soju and ojing-o pretty good, too. Seems ideal for soju fights, red-faced rage, smashed toes and chipped teeth. My average goes up when I'm drunk, I found. I think that's because I don't limit my targets to the pins in my own lane.
When I arrived on the scene, not that many Koreans knew how to bowl, and hence not that many bowling alleys even in Seoul. Like, you pretty much knew where all five were. Terrific 'alternative' place to pick up 'normal' chicks, particularly the ones that didn't know the right way to bowl and would get all fussy about their manicures and such.
Eventually grew tired of it and didn't go bowling for several years. Then I went again and gads, what a nasty change. All these visored, squat, determined-looking ajummas in their matching shirts and pro-bowler gloves, bowling strikes, picking up spares, and "high-fiving" each other without the slightest -- I mean the SLIGHTEST -- hint of joy or merriment. Grim as shit, those places anymore. |

is it just me, or are the finger holes too small? I swear the balls would stick to my hand every time I tried to let them go.
Didn't know you could drink in there though, maybe I'll give it another try |

Bowling alleys, watery draft. Hand in hand. My second last job before leaving Canada was bartending at the ajacent bar to Yellowknife's only bowling alley, both known as "the Polar Bowl". Yep, beer.
As far as Ajummas picking it up as a "sport", it's just typical, no? For something to really take off here, it has to be competitive, make you appear more worldly or classy, or help your career. Doing something for D) none of the above, aka "fun" just doesn't seem to be much of an option.
Sure, there are individuals who are full of joy, but I'm not seeing many day to day now. It's starting to get to me.
