North professors get computer training
Twenty professors from Pyongyang's Kim Chaek University of Technology are in Beijing for three weeks of computer science training sponsored by the Korean government, a U.S. university and a U.S. not-for-profit organization.
The training, which concludes Thursday, was organized and sponsored by the New York-based Korea Society. Syracuse University and South Korea's Ministry of Unification also sponsored the training. Kim Chaek and Syracuse have had exchange programs for several years. Professors from Kim Chaek, for instance, visited Syracuse University four times last year, while Syracuse reportedly provided financial support for the North Korean university's construction of a library. Separately, Ted Turner, founder of CNN, and U.S. congressman Curt Weldon, vice chairman of the House Armed Services Committee, today conclude a four-day trip to Pyongyang.

I wonder if the Syracuse University Alumni Association knows what the university is doing?

I think I'm supposed to think this is a bad thing, but I don't know why. |

Let's see, this is bad because it gives educators in N. Korea in charge of the minds of the next generation of young people a more positive view of the US? Am I getting close? |

A poster here put up an article about Norks credit rating. Seems they like to routinely stiff people. Perhaps Ted Turner could pay Nork's bills or perhaps Nork could sell its soiled underwear to American academics to make up the difference. |
