PostPosted: Sun May 08, 2005 7:58 pm    Post subject: Problems with KB Bank "international" ATM Card Reply with quote

I've had this card for a couple years and it just in the last month quit working outside Korea - even when tried in a variety of different bank's ATMs. A family member uses it in another country is how I know this.

My other card (I was issued two) continues to work just fine in Korea.

KB Bank issued another card saying they thought that the old one may have demagnetized. However, the new one does not work either.

Has anyone else had this problem where it just stopped working?
If so, did it get fixed? What was the problem?

Can anyone suggest another bank with an "international" card that continues to work?

Back to the bank today for another shot at fixing the problem.

For me - this is a big problem for upcoming summer vacation and complicates family finances quite a bit.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Zzzzzz

My parents told me that they can't use my KB international card either back in Canada.

If you solve the problem, let me know b/c I don't want to send a new card back to the parents if it's not going to work.

FUBAR,

Is this a new situation for your card too? If so, I am wondering if the bank is just blowing off the ATM system or ?

My bank card worked for at least a year (outside the country) until last week it stopped. The card that I have for myself works without problem inside Korea.

Well, we can guess that these may not be individual problems (I thought it was just me - but thought I would ask just in case).

So . . . S**t! And **!?* and !!**&beep*beep* Ha ha - typed in my own beeps!

I'm going to the bank in about 20 minutes will let you all know if this issue has been clarified.

We've had similar discussions before and if I recall - KB was the only bank that everyone was having some success with. Is that still true?

Are there other banks that may now have ATM cards that work overseas?

Ah, yes, the old "international hub" thing . . .

I'll change banks today if I can find one that works.

Our "friends" at KB bank inform me that as of April 8th the "international" cards will work for Koreans, but no longer will work for foreigners.

Wish they had told me that LAST week before I DHLed the new card they gave me to Thailand . . . But, what the hey.

RIP KB Card.

Goodbye KB Bank. (Uh, unless I can't find a good alternative)

Its undependable.

I had an account a year or so ago with KB.. and about every 2-3 months it would just suddenly become demagnetized for whatever reason. I always had to go in and get a brand new card issued. Had to do that 4-5 times over the course of my contract.

Unfortunately, because its the only bank I know where you can withdraw money internationally.. I just got another account as of a few months ago. I'm just waiting for any day to happen when its suddenly becomes demagenetized again.

I've never ever had any american ATM card or credit card ever become demagnized before.. so hard to understand why KB Bank routinely has this problem - must be the contracter they work with who does that for them or something.

Not the problem here as I just sent a new card to Thailand last week - it doesn't work either. Also, note KB Bank's comments in my previous post, Derrick's good luck notwithstanding.

Please tell me otherwise, I would like to know it's true! But I'm not optimistic.

I used my KB card last year in Canada, it would only work during the korean hours of operation. so I would go to the ATM after 11 pm EST or in the middle of the night.

I theoretically have an international debit card from uri bank. My wife got it all set up, but we haven't had the chance to use it yet.

I think the problem is that some Korean cards are WAY more powerful... my door access card zapped one of my credit cards once. I'm pretty sure it was that, and since then, I've always kept the door card in with my money -- protected by a leather barrier from any other cards. Those T-money cards might be strong, too.

Looks like I will be changing to whichever bank offers an international card.

I wonder when RR is going to post his useless link about foreigners experiencing difficulties in Korea. Don't disappoint us RR. What would a day be for you without killing a thread.

I also use the KB "International" card. I was a little ticked off when I started reading this since tomorrow is payday. Then I saw the April 8th thing. I guess I'm lucky like Derrek because my old man pulled out $1000 for me on April 26th in Canada. Hopefully it's still working because it's a real slick method to get my money home.
