I had a new hard drive put into my laptop. It was 3 years old and one of the hard drive died. Anyway, I have an external and now I can not access it. It was NTSF and now says it is raw and asked me to format it. Of course if I format it I will lose all my data. I backed everything up on it. I did a file recovery on it and saw that files are still there - I did not extract them because the task would be too involved and I would have to buy the software. I think it just lost its headings.
If i can find away of getting those headings back on it will be ok.
It will not scan for errors?
Help please |

yeah I had this prob. before. I lost all my data because the HD power suply was faulty which corrupted the File Allocation Table. Samsung gave me a new drive.
If you have backed the stuff up the your lucky.
I cant tell you for sure how to get the stuff back but try a prog called Acronis Disk Director. You need to know bit torrent to get it however.
Soory to hear of your "loss". |

I sued a program called Scavenger which pulled up most of my files. Some images did not get fully restored, but all my documents and Excels were restored and that was my main concern. I then reformatted the drive.
What this expereince tells me is that the external hard drive does not serve as a good back-up device. It seems that if you plug it into a another computer that Windows XP removes all the labels. When I got a new hard drive it was like getting a new computer. I no longer rely on the external as a secure way of saving data |
