do you need a specific dual-layer burner for this, or will my normal burner be able to handle this? |

If your burner is DL capable then you got no problems. But DL Media is very expensive they run around 5k-7k won each. |

Yes, you need a DL burner to burn them.. Otherwise, you're stuck with the 4.7 disks. But "stuck" isn't a good word.
You can now buy OEM (no software) Dual-Layer LG Burners in Yongsan for about 40,000 won. I have a single-layer burner, and have no interest in bothering to upgrade. Why? Because my SL media is so cheap to buy (about 800 to 1000 won per disk, last I checked). And the DL media is so expensive -- closer to 4000 won each and up. If you accidentally make costers from time to time, that is EXPENSIVE!
Always buy good media. I only buy SONY now. I used to buy the cheap off-brand disks like REX until I found they quit working after 6 months and scratched so easily. Also, I learned that the off-names are nothing more than the rejects bought from the companies who make their own disks. The rejects are labeled at different levels, and sold cheaply. Don't bother with no-name brands! You can get away with it in some CDs, but DVDs are a different animal.
I have noticed that the Korean movie encoding companies are switching to 4.7gig disks to encode video rentals onto. They like to add a second 4.7gig disk in the box for lots of video extras and stuff. If they're only fitting a movie and menus on a disc in the first place, the movie is still able to fit with no problem and still look great. Heck, they may as well. They can fit two disks in the box anyway, and buying/encoding those two disks still saves them money over buying the 8.5gig blanks.
Also, putting movies on 4.7gig disks: that is nice for folks who like to copy movies -- no waits for compression.
The quality is good enough, anyway. |

3 weeks ago at Yongsan I had to ask 5 shops before I found one that could order in dual layer media and it was 8,000 won a pop. Anyhow I wasn't planning on buying any, just wanted to know the price.
I last weekend I picked up sond DVD-R's for 300won a pop. |

Last year when I was back home, single-layer media was so much cheaper than here... prices caught up, though. I bought two 50 spools of SONY media on special. I think it averaged out to about 600 won a pop. I was happy. |
