Bomb attacks in Bangladesh
17/08/2005 09:55 - (SA)

Quote:
Dhaka - Around 50 bombs exploded almost simultaneously in cities around Bangladesh on Wednesday, police said, including around 15 in the capital Dhaka and 20 in the southern port of Chittagong.

Police in some of the cities said leaflets calling for implementation of Islamic law were found near the scene of the blasts, some written in Arabic and others in English.

'An organised attack'

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but leaflets from a banned Islamic group, the Jumatul Mujahedin, were found at the scene of a number of explosions, police said. The group wants to establish an Islamic state in predominantly Muslim Bangladesh.

"It's an organised attack," Lufuzzaman Babar, a top official in the Home Ministry, told the local TV station ATN Bangla. "It's not a simple incident."

If it wasn't for US foreign policy these bombings would have never occurred Rolling Eyes

The anti war movement doesn't understand why Al Qaida and their allies fight.

Bangladesh needs its own Patriot Act. Problem is, Bangladesh doesn't have enough refugees to draft laws for it.

Another totally unrepresentative act carried out in the name Islam. Haven't these people read the Koran? Mohammed would never have condoned such violence....well, hang on....

I'm chiming in but I have only bitterness and sarcasm to offer so I'll be quiet. I'll say "I understand".

You guys are missing the point the vicitims of these attacks were most certainly muslims themselves.

The point was not that Islam is bad but that Al Qaida are fascists.

This is supposed to be a Jihadi website. I can't read it but the crossed swords over an Iraq map is likely some kind of clue. It comes from England.

No, the point is that such violence is prevalent in many muslim countries (and others with sizable muslim minorities), and it is directly inspired by the Koran, the deeds of Mohammed and hundreds of years of Islamic history. When Al-Qaeda are long gone, many other Islamic terror groups will take their place, all inspired by the same ideology of Jihad and war against infidels which can be found in the Koran, and which is advocated by muslim clerics all over the world. But, let's keep kidding ourselves that 'Islam is not the problem'.

Tell us why Islamic nations were a lot more tolerant than western nations for most of time.

You should read Bernard Lewis.

Once again harking back to the past. Yes, Christianity was extremely intolerant for much of it's history. But it is just that (isolated abortion extremists notwithstanding), history. In Europe we had a reformation and the Enlightenment. Christian countries are now secular nations, where freedom of concience and religion are enshrined in law.

What I am concerned about is the religion today causing widespread misery, violence and oppression, and saying that Al-Qaeda are the problem totally misses the point.

The problem is, you have not given Islam time enough to adjust on its own. Moreover, it's doubtful you can force a reformation on a religion, especially if you claim the evils in it are 'inspired by the Koran, the deeds of Mohammed and hundreds of years of Islamic history.'

'Dirty muslims running around'? What are you talking about?

In order to combat the global Islamic Jihad we need to do a number of things.

To protect the West from Islamic influence, and thus its inherent violence and intolerance, we must end all immigration from muslim nations, and seriously clamp down on those who advocate, excuse or sanction violence. Failed policies of multiculturalism must end, whereby immigrant communities have been encouraged to develop separately and maintain their culture.

Secondly, we must drastically reduce our dependence on Middle East oil, which leaves us hostage to whomever controls Saudi, and which funds international terrorism, Wahhabi mosques and Islamic schools in the West.

Thirdly, we need to be honest about what is happening in the Islamic world. That we are facing a resurgence of global Jihad, with widespread public support, sanctioned by numerous states and clerics.

Lastly, we must make sure that no more muslim countries get their hands on nuclear weapons. The risk of them falling, or being given, into the wrong hands is simply too great.

This is a clash of civilizations, which until Islam is reformed cannot be avoided. I don't care much what kind of backward, medieval states muslims want to put in place for their own countries. Let's leave them to enjoy the wonders of Shariah, while we enjoy democracy and liberty.
