Does everyone have EI deducted from their pay? What exactly does it entitle you to?

I know what it is in Canada, but I'm not sure if it's the same thing in Korea. If someone quit or got layed off, how'd they ever collect? - their visa would be no good and they'd have to leave the country... correct? Is it being deducted because I'm being paid by the government?

I'd ask the boss, but he's not here now (we're on holidays this week); and anyway, his answer to everything is "Yes, yes" which doesn't impart much information!

EI is optional for foreigners.
You can request that you not have it deducted from your cheques.

Like you said its kind of a moot point because to qualify for it you have to leave the country.
