Hey kids,
Okay, long story short, I need to find a place to live since my school can't provide me with an apartment at this point. Preferably I'd like to live by the Gwangdong station, I teach right off the Macheon Station (Line 5). I am new to Seoul and don't really know how to go about this. You guys know anything? advice?
thanks

Hmmm... So far as finding an apartment, that shouldn't be hard to do. Just take a Korean friend or co-worker with you to any place called (real estate/rental agency), and they can show you apartments. Expect to need at least 5 million in key money.
But perhaps a more important question for you to be asking is why isn't your school providing you with a place to live "at this point"? Is it in your contract that they have to provide you with a place? If so, that's probably not a point you want to be rolling over on. |

You will need to deal with real estate people (bu-dong-san). Keep a couple of different numbers handy (and make it clear you will change agents) just in case they completely ignore your requirements for housing and start showing you random, unihabitable hovels. If you find they are wasting your time, just switch agents. |

You might try an "office-tel" if they have any nearby. The rent will depend on the key money you out down, but you may not even need to put any down at all if you don't mind paying 500,000/month. |
