University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill....founded 1789 (first state university in America-the only public university in America which awarded degrees as a public institution in the 18th century)

That's deceptive. Sungkyunkwan, in it's present form as a university, isn't that old. As a place to learn, it is.

As far as modern universities go, places that teach more than Confusianism, Yonsei was first (at least in the form of Severance in founded in 1885 and Chosun Christian University founded in 1915 with the two coming together in 1957).

Mine was founded in 1967 and is one of the top Universities in Canada. What's funny about that? Oh I forgot....good universities have to have a long history of assholes in order to be good right?

Neat, you must have been an Oxford refugee. Wink

Quote:
By 1200, Cambridge was a thriving commercial community which was also a county town and had at least one school of some distinction. Then, in 1209, scholars taking refuge from hostile townsmen in Oxford migrated to Cambridge and settled there. They were numerous enough by 1226 to have set up an organisation, represented by an official called a Chancellor, and seem to have arranged regular courses of study, taught by their own members. King Henry III took them under his protection as early as 1231 and arranged for them to be sheltered from exploitation by their landlords. At the same time he tried to ensure that they had a monopoly of teaching, by an order that only those enrolled under the tuition of a recognised master were to be allowed to remain in the town.

I won a gold medal from that university, and it's still one of the last places I'd recommend people go. In my last year I spent more time in the Koerner Library than the Wacky Bennet Library if that means anything to you.

I can't find anything for the University of Khao San Road, where I got my degree. It's bizarre.
