|
|
EDUorange a recruiting firm has just contacted me today about a position in Bundang and I was wondering if anyone had information on them. The school's name is CIE now, but they are changing it to Everland.
The guy said that there are like 4000 students and they have 38 native speakers. It all sounds good, now is it true?
Has anyone worked with EDUOrange before? Should I trust this recruiter?
Any info would be appreciated |

Check out posts on CIE Bundang and EduOrange.
My initial experience was Stephen was VERY nice and got me what I thought was a good interview with CIE Bundang. However, Stephen wrote me that they decided I was not suited to the position, but he would find me something else.
In my opinion, Stephen doesn't really handle other jobs, or if he does the offerings are so few he can't offer them to people CIE rejects. I emailed and called a few more times. The recruiter (and his friendly wife) who had called and email several times a day for days, never returned my calls or emails again.
Perhaps they wanted to save face. Check out CIE posts...I guess I'm glad they rejected me, though insulted considering their apparent lack of caliber. |

There is a CIE in my school building, in Bundang. If there is only ONE CIE in Bundang (I am in Jeongja dong) then they are not telling the truth about 4000 studens and 38 native teachers! There is NO WAY there are that many kids at that school - they likely mean 4000 students and 38 teachers at ALL CIE's combined.
But then again, I really don't know anything about them....just guessing based on what I see of them in my building. |

There's a CIE at Migeum station too. It was my old hagwon's competition. If parents ever pulled a Kid from Yale, they sent them to CIE.
I've not heard good things about the school and my old students always used to say they'd never want to go to CIE because they give more homework |

| Typical hakwon chain that has its claws in the Bundang student masses. Knew a lot of teachers there, and they all gave me the impression that it's just like any other average hakwon job. Find out which office you'll be working at. |

(I am using my friend's account to post this message since I can't seem to register myself.)
I've been here about a week and it was quite a rigamaroll to get here. I've been dealing with Stephen Cho since the middle of April... let me tell you the story.
In April, I was hired by a school in Seosan, 1.5 hours south of Seoul. I was all ready to make my way there - I had encountered the 2 other foriegn teachers via e-mail and had learned a lot about the region. I was very comfortable after 2 months while I waited for my proper documents and immigration approval. However, about a month ago, I recieved a call from Stephen saying that the job no longer existed for some BS reason given him by the director but Stephen got right on top of it. He said he intended to hook me up with CIE in Bundang. I didn't know Bundang from Bangladesh but I wasn't picky so I accepted the interview and was accepted.
Once I arrived, everything was as I expected (despite a few minor setbacks regarding the visa... thanks soooo much to the incompetence of the Korean consulate in Toronto). Stephen welcomed me personally at the airport and everything is more than satisfactory.
CIE (Avalon, now) is a nice school with it's problems like every other hogwan (or so I've heard). Bundang is an exceptional city from what I've heard and I'm quite impressed thus far. EVERYONE I've talked to has said that everyone in Korea wants to live here- apparently it is the best city in Korea... Koreans as well as foreigners who have lived elsewhere in Korea have said the same things.
So, although I've only been here a week, I like it. Stephen Cho was a reasonable individual who put a lot of effort into my placement (he called or e-mailed me regularly even if there was nothing to talk about and called at hours that would have been very inconvenient for him etc.).
If you really want him to look after you, just have a really good attitude when you talk to him on the phone and in e-mails. He really likes people who are sunny and outgoing.
Good luck, maybe I'll meet you one day.

I teach at an Avalon school in Bundang-gu. Typical hagwon, though it has nice facilities. You could do much worse.
They're filthy rich and they are well-respected by parents.
I read all the stories about them here, and most of them, I'm sure, are exaggerations by typical dumb-ass whiners. It's fine. If you've done your homework about classroom management in Sk, you'll not be surprised.
Eduorange, on the other hand, seems shady. But so long as he isn't shafting you with salary or with living accomodations, I see no problem. |
